I'm of the camp that observing the universe around us for what it is- peering into its incredible vastness, its rich configurations of matter- is much, much, more interesting than mere philosophical speculation and babble. I don't think it is unjust to call the sciences of astronomy and cosmology...romantic, if you will. Rivaling any poem, or novel, or movie, or philosophical tome out there in terms of awe and wonder. The laws of physics and chemistry underlying the universe and its behavior are beautiful in their own right.

When it comes to things like simulation theory, not that this is anything more than meaningless speculation, it might be remembered that people in ancient times loved to project the things around them into their gods: gods were variously bearded old men, animals such as rams, elephants, birds, cats, etc. This is a basic human tendency- the universe has to be created/work according to what humans see around themselves. Fast forward to the 20th/21st century: it is no surprise that people now want to call everything a simulation, as computers/video games/everything digital are all the rage around us in modern culture. Maybe, just maybe, the universe is truly mysterious, and does not have to conform to whatever humans happen to be obsessed with at the moment.

    [Chester Bennington:]
    Crawling in my skin
These wounds they will not heal
    Fear is how I fall
    Confusing what is real

There's something inside me that pulls beneath the surface
    Consuming confusing
This lack of self-control I fear is never ending
    Controlling I can't seem

UFO sightings are 'total nonsense' based on what?

Are you basing their travel on what's currently possible from a human point of view? Rocketry and vector thrust technology? How do you know 'they' haven't invented space time manipulation? How can you possibly know what their reasons might be for coming here? Just because you think it's too bizarre to be likely doesn't necessarily make it so.

FYI I've seen 'UFO's' up close. It's life changing and it's my belief that they are either interplanetary or somehow come from some sort of subterranean or ocean-based unknown civilization.
The "UFO'S" you have seen probably have a perfectly rational explanation and the chances of them being anything other than a drone being controlled by your neighbour is infinitely small. Lay off the fluoride bud.

The universe is truly the most amazing and mysterious thing we have.
People resort to whatever they want to mentally comprehend gaps.

For me, I believe in intelligent design through simulation.
I don't believe the designer cares or knows the slightest about our lives.
Just like in the famous game of life, cells reproduce, die, continue.

    It's truly wonderful.

Simulation. It's an exaggerated version of what real life actually would be. The sunsets are more pretty, and the sky is more blue. I love it.

It's not about being omniscient, it's just being justifiably skeptical about random claims. If I post that I saw a T-rex walking around my backyard last night, Bigfoot digging through my trash last week, or an alien from a distant star playing games in our sky, you'd likely be skeptical too- as you should be.

This stance about not making a judgment makes sense. Why come up with a grandiose theory when the data and evidence is simply not there? What would be the value of such a theory?

Water is all over the place in the solar system, including on the other planets (mainly as ice). Take mars- it has water in its polar caps, and probably vast amounts of water in its mantle, etc. There just isn't liquid water on its surface, which is not a surprise since Mars has an extremely thin, and thus low pressure, atmosphere and its avg temp is like -85 degrees F. It seems very possible though, at one time Mars did have liquid water running on its surface- there are various geographical morphological characteristics of this on the surface of the planet. Venus is the opposite problem, being an inferno with a very heavy atmosphere, and does not support liquid water on its surface (but again, very possibly could have at one point long ago). So to answer why Earth seems to be the only place with vast amounts of liquid water on the surface really comes down to its configuration of atmosphere and climate- not because it was somehow "hit" more by water-containing asteroids in the past and others weren't.

Water is made up of hydrogen and oxygen, to ultimately find the origin of it, you must find the origin of these two elements. The leading theory is that hydrogen formed close to the big bang, while oxygen was formed by fusion reactions in stars. Earth possibly got a lot of its water from asteroids (probably not comets) bombarding from space and the solar nebula itself.

I think we almost have a natural defense mechanism to not wonder too much about it. Same as death. We just can't comprehend it without overloading our mind and inevitably depressing it.

So like it's all one big organism? Everything is just one big organism? And you, and everyone, and everything is like part of that organism?

Like how a cell in our body is doing it's thing, and it sees our body as the entire universe, we're like that but to the universe we see?

And maybe the universe is a cell within an even bigger organism that it recognises as the universe

The old tales about how some ancient cultures thought we lived in the eye of a blue eyed dragon may not be too far from the truth

i beilieve you yourself are the only real human being on this "planet" and all your friends and family are just AI that act for you. nothing in the world moves until you wake up, thats when the system starts.

these AI change their behaviours every so often to give life some story line, sometimes giving you happiness and sometimes sadness. the people observing you want to see how you (a human) reacts around AI and how much pressure/happiness can you take and how much "sucess" you can get.

everybody around is fake, things arnt invented they are just added to the biosphere by the creator, YOU (jewseejohn) are a fake account created by the AI's. everybdoy who replies to this thread is also a fake account.
people on TV do not EXIST. you have never met donald trump or Obama, you just see simulated media of these "sims".

in reality, you are alone in this world, with robots all around you. and YOU (the ai reading this) are a robot.

of course youll say "what? im not a robot! im a human! im alive just like you..." thats just what the creator wants you to think you filthy robot.

have you ever seen your brain? a picture of a brain is the closest you get in your lifetime but you will never see your brain, its because you dont have one. its a computer in there.

Its true. Our minds do have a natural defense system. I remember my brain shutting down when I was around 28ish. At that time I kept thinking about how im about to turn 30 and didn't accomplish much in my life. So what happened was that my brain went into this mode where it didn't let me think about the past or present. It was weird as fk. It lasted about two weeks. Pretty cool built in mechanism if you ask me.

Well, i had thought that the atmosphere was created from the interaction between water and the sun..but went looking it up, and though it does play a part of it now, it wasnt the origin of the atmosphere.

But its funny, in looking it up i saw 3 theories and "updates" to the theories that posited different things. They said:

    1. Early volcanoes released x and x into the atmosphere
    2. Said it wasnt early volcanoes but meteorites from space
    3. Said earths core creates water on its own and might be the source of water on earth. Along with being hit from rocks from outer space

    https://www.newscientist.com/article...in-the-mantle/
    https://www.sciencedaily.com/release...1210153538.htm

My question to #1 is where did the "volcanoes" come from? I guess rudimentary non developed land just formed volcanoes from the sun? As earth was like a barren dessert/ full of dust. If that were the case how come it wasnt just one huge ball of a volcanoe?

And regarding your post, you can always say how does the big bang pop up from nothing? How did any materials/ atoms/ reactions just appear from nothing?

With the physicist James Hartle, hawking tried to describe the history of the cosmos in one mathematical expression. But quantum theory shows that the distinctions between space and time are unclear. As a result, the proposal showed there was little point asking what happened before the Big Bang"
    - not sure i agree with that but.. Whatever. At the very least it seems like more distinctions need to be made between space and time

I guess my point is you can just pick almost anything, find info, and then find info you dont know and keep going and going

    When your day is long
And the night, the night is yours alone
When you're sure you've had enough
Of this life, well hang on
    Don't let yourself go
    'Cause everybody cries
    And everybody hurts sometimes
    Sometimes everything is wrong
Now it's time to sing along
When your day is night alone (Hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go (Hold on)
If you think you've had too muchOf this life, well hang on
    Everybody hurts
    Take comfort in your friends
    Everybody hurts
Don't throw your hand, oh no
    Don't throw your hand
If you feel like you're alone
No, no, no, you are not alone
If you're on your own in this life
The days and nights are long
When you think you've had too much of this life to hang on
    Well, everybody hurts sometimes
