Huh, how'd they get that 24% number for the bottom half of households??

The top 1 percent of taxpayers paid a 27.1 percent individual income tax rate, which is more than seven times higher than taxpayers in the bottom 50 percent (3.6 percent).Jan 17, 2018

That's a good thing. Especially if our government is never going to actually reduce spending...

Once it starts coming out of their pockets, maybe they will start demanding their representatives do something about it.

Nope, the richest classes used to pay a much higher effective/average tax rate too. See pg. 2-3:

    See: https://fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/R42729.pdf

    The average tax rate for
the top 0.01% (one taxpayer in 10,000) was about 60% in 1945 and fell to 24.2% by 1990. The
average tax rate for the top 0.1% (one taxpayer in 1,000) was 55% in 1945 and also fell to 24.2%
by 1990, following a similar downward path as the tax rate for the top 0.01%.
Even looking past the tax hikes for the war effort, in the 50s, 60s and 70s the top 0.01% were paying nearly double the effective tax rate they currently are.

Libs really need to study up on the differences between income tax rates vs effective tax rates. Also look into capital gains tax. Understanding these things will clear up 90% of their misunderstandings.

EX: Why would Barack Obama pay only 18.7% in income taxes when he is clearly well into the top 1% which he personally increased to 35% rate?

Remember when tax rates for the rich were 70 - 90%, but the effective tax rate paid wasn't too much different than today?

The sad thing is all that money that the rich saved from lower taxes wasn't invested in industry and production, it was placed into stock buy-backs, further rigging the over-valued stock market, and increasing the wealth gap even more.

Imagine the rich paying less taxes than Joe the Plumber, and the government running record breaking deficits lmao.

Not only has Trump's little tax cut scheme fuk over the little guy, he has been crying for the Fed to continue with rate cuts and QE, further weakening the purchasing power of the dollar.

Who benefits from a weaker dollar? THE RICH.

The only thing Trump will be remembered for is his tax cuts, large deficits, and a bloated military budget.
39He went a little farther on, threw himself face downward on the ground, and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, take this cup of suffering from me! Yet not what I want, but what you want.”

Yeah that's not true though. See the following:

    https://fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/R42729.pdf

    The average tax rate for
the top 0.01% (one taxpayer in 10,000) was about 60% in 1945 and fell to 24.2% by 1990. The

by 1990, following a similar downward path as the tax rate for the top 0.01%.
When the top marginal tax rate was 90%+ in the 40s, the effective tax rate on the top 0.01% was around 60%. In the 50s-70s, it still remained in the 40-50% range, whereas today it's around 25%.

This. Others have already broken down these numbers and they are wrong. Once you factor in tax credits, many in the bottom 50% actually pay negative tax rates.

This is fake news. No wonder the liberals love it.

All of the reports have indicated that it’s actually the lower earning folks who have benefited more than higher earning folks due to the tax cuts.

The real sad thing is that a chunk of americans have been so successfully conditioned and browbeaten over the years that supporting this is actually a fairly mainstream position in the US. Nowhere else would you find a bunch of depressed, lowly wagecels struggling to make ends meet, so vibrantly defending the ability of the ultra wealthy to siphon off ever more of the country's wealth.

GDP and wealth creation have all continued upward over the past half decade yet little to none of that wealth has found its way to middle and working class americans. Real wages have been fairly unchanged. Purchasing power for the average American has hardly budged either. Labour force participation is at multi decade lows.

Wealth inequality is now back to the highest levels it has ever been in the US. The richest three US families control more wealth than the bottom half of all Americans.

This is all great if your version of a dream society is a feudal serfdom.
