Find a way that you're comfortable with and adapt with change if need be.
I personally hold out on calories right now until about 2PM. Not IF, but just about 80-100 cals in the morning until my pre-workout meal, then gym it up for a bit and down a big protein shake and fried egg sandwich once I get home. I know protein timing is not exactly a thing these days, but I just feel good doing it anyways. Then after that I'll just eat in the evening/night until I reach my calorie target.I have a good joke about water retention. But I'm going to hold onto it for now.
