Five days off from work and the weather has been crap so far so it’s not looking good for any mountains. I forced myself out of bed early to go get in a lift session. If tomorrow is another turd I might hammer out a rainy run tomorrow.

    175 x 5
    175 x 5
    175 x 5

    CG UH Lat Pull
    90 x 10

    90 x 10

    Calf Raises
    175 x 20
    175 x 20
    175 x 20

    Bench

Those two exercises alone should make your midsection strong as hell and prevent further injury.

Do you feel better having more stamina/endurance/cardio? I think when my cardio is top notch I feel the best physically and mentally. Don't get me wrong strength training generally gives me a better endorphin high. But as far as being leveled out longer and feeling overall physically better I'd say having my cardio on point is key. There's definitely a happy medium between the two.

Much respect again for lifting seriously after an injury.
    Thanks my man!
My midsection is pretty strong still, even before lifting again, probably due to all my previous work & hiking with a heavy pack.

Unfortunately my hernia was an inguinal hernia which is groin area rather than belly (yea it fukkkng sucked).

I love having the conditioning on point. I move better, I hike faster, I fly around the factory at work (which is great because I’m a fast paced person).

Strength training was great but my body felt beat up most of the time while doing a PL routine.

I love lifting and running first thing in the morning, it puts me in such a good place mentally to take on the day

First day back after a long break! I chose to sleep in yesterday. Unfortunately the weather in the mountains was disagreeable most of the weekend- random T storms every day so no climbing.

After my last squat session (last Thursday?) I had a fair amount of discomfort where my hernia was and it lasted a few days. Kinda sh!tty because my legs felt plenty strong. I dialed back weight and volume a bunch today, we'll see how it goes. Even if I just rep 135 a few sets to keep the legs working it's better than nothing (and I think running is helping my trail numbers better anyhow).

I've been planning to get some sort of stair master / climber for winter time when outdoor running isn't a viable option. I might end up looking into one sooner. Throw a weighted backpack on and slay an hour on that would work the legs plenty haha

    Back Squats
    45 x 10
    100 x 5
legs were snappy and fresh but i could feel that hernia spot

    Front Squats
    45 x 10
    100 x 5
    135 x 5
didn't feel bad- felt better than the back squats. Surprised how easily I could get back into clean grip considering how long it's been

    Close grip UH Lat pull
    95 x 10
    95 x 10
    95 x 10

    Calf Raises
    185 x 20
    185 x 20
    185 x 20

    Bench
    45 x 10
    45 x 10
    95 x 5
    135 x 5
    165 x 5
    165 x 5
    165 x 5
    pretty smooth

    Run
    1.06 miles / 9:26 min
    8:52 min / mile pace
fastest pace yet. I'll probably take in a longer one tomorrow before resting up for a hopeful Friday climb
    PRs: Back Squat- 410x1 / Front Squat- 320x1/ Bench- 325x1 / Deadlift- 505x1

I know what you mean about PLing making your body all sore. I've cut back my frequency and volume lately and that helped me allot.

Also that blows about the location of your hernia, got dayumm. Let us know what the doc says bro!

Nice workout you got there. It is odd seeing your front squat and bench numbers heavier than the back squat, but honestly with your hernia and goals of conquering mountains, I wouldn't worry too much about that squat. Besides I would think front squats would have more carry over to climbing trails, yeah?

I hope to never have another one (and never to blow the same one out again!) fukking suckkkkkkkkkkkked
I dunno when I'll make it in to the doc, I've got so much going on right now. Working to refinance the homestead which will save me almost $400 a month, plus work in general always has me straight out.

Thanks dude! yea numbers are in the toilet everywhere. My previous squat sessions I've been adding +10 every time with no issues. Legs were fine at 175 but then I felt that discomfort where my hernia was repaired for several days afterwards. Makes me nervous because I do not want to go through it again, that sucked so much.

Endurance & cardio seems to be doing the most for my mountain treks. Back work has helped a bit, I"m not as sore from carrying a heavy pack anymore. Even if I can only squat 100 pounds, it should help keep the legs strong enough to scale boulders.

Most people who tackle the 7 do Kilimanjaro 1st. Honestly, I want to do Aconcagua so bad. Tall as fack, snow fields to trek on...
It's all gonna come down to time and when this virus crap stops messing with everything. Kili takes about 2 weeks whereas Aconcagua will take 3-4, but hnnnngggg look at that thing

Yeah, I say go for the one you really want, first. That way if the mountains get 2020'd and somehow disappear at least you can say you got the one you really wanted to see!

That chit looks beyond awesome. If I wasnt such a lazy turd that hated walking, much less hiking up to the stratosphere I would try one, but that chits for the real men.... gorillas dont belong in the mountains

Hey man! Still going that’s awesome! I used to be back here in the day still working on changing my name.

I moved to Colorado just so I could hit some 14ers. The goal is to do the hike through the Grand Canyon then eventually crush some 15 and 16ers

Still alive here but I've been a bum lately as far as workouts. Between work and weather I haven't had much chance to smash any peaks. Most of my free time has been at the shooting range and not in my gym haha
I'll try to step it up this weekend.

lol I feel that. The ammo for the 30.06 is hella expensive near me so havent been doing any rifle shooting. 9mm is not too terrible but I am probably spending $200 a month in ammo and I dont even get to shoot that often
You would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.

Burnt thru prob $50 in 20 min today hah
    Only shooting handguns right now

    Did decent with my .45

One dead center with my .38 (baby hole)
Shot mostly low with my 44 and 50, although that one .50 to the neck would have popped a head clean off haha

how far out were you? That is an odd grouping for a handgun.

And yeah a 45 would pretty much end an unarmored threat no matter where you hit them.

About 15 yards. Haha I dunno if you can use the term “grouping” for My shots yet. I’m happy they’re getting more on target now.

I love the 45. The 50 is badass but it’s a lot to handle, hence accuracy sucks right now with it.

Out of nowhere, an actual workout appears!

Got so frustrated that I fell off the wagon, then work got busy and you know, life. Been chatting with Dope and he got me motivated to smash one this morning.
Also props for kicking me in the ass to try Bulgarian split squats. Holy hell- that's a mountain climbing squat right there! There's no 2 leg squats on mountains- it's a big step up a rock and push yourself up with that one leg.
Also good news- didn't feel any pressure on the hernia spot doing these. I'll keep at them with BW for a bit then throw some extra weight on my back.

    CG Lat Pulldown
    95 x 8
    95 x 8
    95 x 8

    Bench
    45 x 10
    45 x 10
    95 x 5
    135 x 5
    155 x 5
    165 x 5
    185 x 2
real good despite the long layoff. 185 was heavy but it was smooth

    Bulgarian Split Squats
    BW x 5 (each leg)
    BW x 5
    BW x 10
holy fuk these are awesome. even BW, legs were shaking after that 10 rep set. Gonna practice these BW for awhile before I add a bar on my back- balance is definitely a factor

    Shoulder Shocker Circuit
    Seated plate front raise 10 x 10
    seated DB lateral raises 7.5s x 10
    seated DB clean & press 7.5s x 10
2 sets of these and I can't lift my arms. hell yea

bonus pic from the range last weekend: check the fireball from the barrel of my 50 haha

    Hell yeah Woody!!!!!

I am thoroughly impressed, nice fawking job getting up early and putting in the work. Love that you tried the split squats too, so happy to hear you like them. Glad you didn't have any pain in the compromised area either. Once you start adding weight to the split squats you should see some good strength carryover to squats and deads.

impressed with your adopting the bulgarian split squat. That is a lift that tests both balance and willpower as well as leg strength and core stability. The fact that you love them and they do not mess with the hernia is great news.

Solid start with your bench strength. A long lay off and still getting 185 for a double means you still remember how, just got to get used to moving stuff again. Also, solid looking forearms holding on to that 50 cal hand cannon. How does the recoil feel on it?
You would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.

Thanks dude! I’m hoping to get a good week of workouts in. Had terrible insomnia for over a week so I was pretty much trash last week. Slept decent last night finally so hopefully that will be a trend.

Thanks dude! So hard finding decent full body leg moves that don’t hurt that hernia spot. My advice is don’t ever get one haha

Bench will come back fine if I stay consistent.

That .50 kicks like hell. Makes my .44 mag feel almost like a toy. I rapid fired a full 7 round mag today and my arms were numb from elbow down after.
Also doesn’t help that the ejected shells have a tendency to doink you in the face haha hard not to flinch

    Monday 8.10.2020 Chest

Kicking this week of right with a workout Monday AM! Gonna do a split rather than the full body. I can keep it to a quick compound lift if I'm short on time and extended it with accessories if I want a longer sesh. Seems the full body I'm only doing once a week, easy to say "fuk I don't have time" and blow it off. I'd rather get 20 minutes 4 days a week than an hour on 1 day.

Also picked up some Whey for that post workout shake. Between that and the surgically implanted mesh holding my guts in, I'm definitely not natty anymore.

    Bench
    45 x 10
    45 x 10
    95 x 5
    135 x 5
    155 x 5
    155 x 5
    155 x 5
    155 x 5
    155 x 5
these were flying up so I tossed in a couple more sets to complete the 5x5. Could tell I was fatiguing by the last set, but felt awesome. If I can keep my head in the game for a solid month, I know I'll be back at 2 plates easy.

    DB Bench
    30s x 15
picked these up less than a minute after the last BB set and just went for burnout.

    DB Flites
    7s x 20
slow, stretch, squeeze. Titties were definitely pumped

unrelated note: New toy as of Friday, Beretta 92FSX. Hnnnnngggg....
put about 200 rounds through her already.

    PRs: Back Squat- 410x1 / Front Squat- 320x1/ Bench- 325x1 / Deadlift- 505x1

What made you get it done?

Mine's an inguinal too, but doesn't bother me much unless it's super cold or i'm about to blow a load, then it feels like my nuts are getting swallowed into my core lul :/

    Tuesday 8.11.20202- Legs

two days in a row? cot damn

    Bulgarian split squats
    BW x 10 (each leg)
    45 x 5
    45 x 5
    45 x 5
    BW x 10
Balance was a bit better so I tried just the bar. Not too bad. Final BW set of 10 burned like a mofo. Tough walking up stairs after

    Standing Calf raises
    135 x 20 / BW x 20
    135 x 20 / BW x 20
    135 x 20 / BW x 20
after the weighted set, I'd rack it then do BW reps with toes on 2" block. holy burn

It wasn't exactly painful, but very uncomfortable. When I'd be up and active (which I usually am) it would get worse and make me nauseous. I can't imagine doing 10 miles in the mountains with a 40 pound pack on with it hanging out.
The first week after surgery was miserable painful.

The first month after surgery they didn't want me doing a damn thing, then very light duty the following month.

Mine was repaired with a mesh installed over the hole, much better at preventing a recurrence. He did say I would most likely always be able to feel it and have some level of discomfort at times.

I notice it sometimes when I move just right, but it's only uncomfortable when I push it too much (like with squats a month or so ago). As long as I'm keeping up with my stretching & mobility work, I haven't had any issues on mountain climbs, and I've been on several 10-12 mile ones with a heavy pack.

Good chit on the bench and split squats woody!

That's gnarly as hell about the mesh you have implanted. Loving that Beretta also, such a great pistol.

last week was crazy at work. I did a quick shoulder session on (thursday monring?) but didn't log it.
Hoping this week is a bit tamer

Slammed out a bench session this morning with some quick DB burnouts at the end. Also did a set of pulldowns after every pressing workset.

Done, changed, and still at work before 5. Wooooooo

    Bench
    45 x 10
    45 x 10
    95 x 5
    135 x 5
    160 x 5
    160 x 5
    160 x 5
pretty easy, especially after the weekend off

    DB Bench
    30s x 20

    DB Flies
    7.5s x 20

    CG Pull Downs
    100 x 5
    100 x 5
    100 x 5
    100 x 5
    100 x 5

Shaping up to be another crazy week at work but I'm managed the early wake-ups for a quick lift both days so far!

I can't get over the mental difference I have following a workout, even when it's sub 30 min. I haven't quite been at work an hour yet, and I've already killed a bunch of crap I had to do at my desk. usually at this point I've gone over the schedule briefly and spent the remainder dicking around on teh interwebz. Gotta keep this train rolling!

    Bulgarian Split Squats
    BW x 5 (each leg)
    45 x 5
    45 x 5
    45 x 5
    55 x 5
    55 x 5
feeling more comfortable with these. even added a couple nickels to the bar for the last two sets. These smoke the legs quick!

    Standing Calf Raises
    155 x 20 + 20 x BW
    155 x 20 + 20 x BW
    155 x 20 + 20 x BW
20 with the BB then toes on the 2" lift for a BW burnout. good stuff
    PRs: Back Squat- 410x1 / Front Squat- 320x1/ Bench- 325x1 / Deadlift- 505x1
