Nice press work! I think the fact that you have to basically do a front squat with the weight is kind of funny too. Them extra core benefits of having a low ceiling

Thanks my man! Seriously, great call on suggesting the split squats. No hernia irritation and it’s a perfect mountain climbing lift.
Hope you’re staying safe out there
Thanks dude! Once I got rolling it felt good to hit up a full hour.
Just a small trek, sub 10 miles. Need to get in a few training ones before anything longer since I haven’t been since late June.
Haha good call, imma have to take credit for a front squat when I OHP from now on!
Thanks apemanPRs: Back Squat- 410x1 / Front Squat- 320x1/ Bench- 325x1 / Deadlift- 505x1

Friday 9.4.2020- Mt Starr King & Mt Waumbek Hike
7.2 mile round trip
approx 2500' elevation gain
4:38 total time (15 min rest on 2nd summit)
carried full winter pack (heavy!)
Decent trek! Pretty mild which was good considering it's been 2 months since my last outing. No crazy steep sections, just a steady uphill the whole way.
Legs and back felt strong the entire time, limiting factor was cardio. Shows that the weight training is working but my slacking off on running / cardio hindered me. Need to get back to running 2x a week.
both summits were in the clouds so no good pictures.PRs: Back Squat- 410x1 / Front Squat- 320x1/ Bench- 325x1 / Deadlift- 505x1

That’s great you feel like you can crush 225!!!
That’s a decent hike with a full pack. Have you thought about trail running? I’m thinking it might be better then just road running. You know the views and all are better. My “training log”

Thanks dude! Gonna be ripping 200+ soon
I knew the forecast called for summit clouds so I picked peaks that were on my list but had wooded summits / restricted views so I wouldn’t miss anything.
Next nice weather chance I get I’ll score you some open ridge above treeline shots
Thanks dude! Anxious to get back to somewhat of my former stats. I’m not expecting to ever do my old squat / DL nimbers, but bench is moving nicely.
I bought some trail runners and have used them around here when I run (half street, half on little walking paths). Someday I’ll try to on mountains but that incline would be brutal hahaPRs: Back Squat- 410x1 / Front Squat- 320x1/ Bench- 325x1 / Deadlift- 505x1

That’s why I’m interested in trail running. The brutality of incline and rocks makes it much more worth while.
The double day. Good job that seated ohp is great going to really help that bench number.
Maybe I’ll do a double today....My “training log”

I opted to sleep an extra hour this morning rather than bench, plus my right hand is a bit tender. Went out shooting Saturday and put a few through the 500 magnum. I have some pretty hot Bear loads that left a nice bruise on my hand haha
Doubles are great when I have the time! I really need to work running back into my day.
Yessir, one foot on the bench. Thanks guy, those fukkers are brutal. Makes my butt cheeks sore for two days.
That shoulder shocker giant set is such a killer even with super light weights. Always a worthy finisher after pressing.PRs: Back Squat- 410x1 / Front Squat- 320x1/ Bench- 325x1 / Deadlift- 505x1

Sometimes shooting a gun is a better time especially if school for the kids is stressing you out. I know I’d choose it over lifting.

Yeah I am gonna need to try to shoot one of those as well . This is definitely a journal full of dudes lol.
OP:"shooting this gun caused a contusion"
Thread followers:"fuk yeah I need to fire a weapon that can damage me as I am firing it too!"
Good job getting upper back work in anyway. Benching with a bruised up hand is a unique experience. I would not recommend it if you can avoid itYou would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.

Tuesday 9.15.2020- Bench & Squat
Forced myself up at 4am and smashed a double before work! Palm is still bruised but I was able to bench ok. Threw in split squats after, so I'm back on track for the week.
Bench
45 x 10
45 x 10
95 x 5
135 x 3
165 x 1
180 x 5
180 x 5

not as quick as the 175 last week but no issues. sore hand definitely stole some focus from the lift
DB Bench

superset w/
DB Flies
17.5s x 15
Split Squats
45 x 5
80 x 5

80 x 5
straight punishment. going upstairs after was a nice burnout
Calf raises
185 x 20 >>drop set>> BW x 20
185 x 20 >>drop set>> BW x 20
Haha blasting is great when I get the chance! just gotta go easy on that 500 before pressing days.
Love to dead hang the DB when doing the rows, such a killer stretch
Haha the regular rounds aren't too bad but those bear loads are insane.
Thanks fella, those splits are the sh!t! Legs are prime for some steep climbing
Thanks apeman!
Haha definitely shoot one if you get the chance. Such a variety of ammo for it- some are pretty normal to shoot and some are straight up painful to fire.
Hand is still bruised today but I benched ok. yesterday would have been tough
Splits are great, and knock on wood they haven't bothered my hernia repair.

Big double. Split squats and benchpress are a nice way to ensure there isnt an unsore muscle left And with the bruised hand! Think I will ask around my area and see if any of my buddies got one I put a few rounds through. Right now looking for something smaller than my wife's XDS. She wants something that is more easily concealed while also still being accurate to fire.
I am looking to take over the XDS as my EDC. It is a comfortable, accurate pistol. The SW 500, on the other hand, does not look easily concealed or comfortable
GiggityYou would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.

Thursday 9.17.2020- Back & Shoulders
Hit up a 4am double today! That'll give me some extra sleep tomorrow AM and then fresh for Saturday if we can get lucky with a higher summit forecast. Been too long since I've been above treeline.
Seated OHP
45 x 10
45 x 10
65 x 5
90 x 5
90 x 5
90 x 5
felt heavy to start, but came into it fine by the second work set. Plenty more reps in the tank
Close grip lat pull down
110 x 6
110 x 6
110 x 6
UH Close grip lat pull down
110 x 6

[b]Shoulder Shocker Giant set
Seated Plate front raise 25 x 10
Seated DB Lateral Raise 17.5s x 10
Seated DB Clean & Press 17.5s x 10
just one set of these. With the weight bump on the DBs it was brutal. Wouldn't have made it through a second round
DB Rows
62.5 x 8
62.5 x 8

slow negative, big stretch at bottom.
Alt DB Curls
17.5s x 10

Alt Hammer Curls
17.5s x 10
17.5s x 10
the adjustable handles weight 2.5 empty hence the oddball weight callouts. (although I do have 1.25 plates for them kicking around)
Thanks dude! DOMs weren't too bad yesterday. Usually the day after split squats is painful.
Check out the walther CCP. sweet little 9 that's easily concealed. Shoots good, easy to handle.

Nice shoulder work and hopefully this time the dumb clouds are not everywhere
I can imagine the looks you get walking past someone wearing that monster. I feel you on the day after split squats being painful. That is an exercise that hits you out of nowhere. Brb only used 55 pounds for easy sets, next day walking around like beat with a stick..... a very large stickYou would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.

Saturday 9.19.2020: Mt Garfield Climb
4500' Elevation
10.0 miles
4:58 total time, 4:28 moving time
The mountain gods bestowed a favorable forecast for Saturday, so I hit the trails for a climb. Views did not disappoint, clear skies went on forever.
Couldn't be more pleased with my performance. 2:14 to summit, 30 on top then 2:14 back down. (the descent would have been quicker but there were a ton of people headed up at that point, so stopping to let people pass in narrow spots, plus chatting took some time)
It was a chilly start just after 6AM, but I warmed up fairly quickly once I got moving. Despite being 5 miles one way with 3000+ elevation gain, it was a pretty easy trail. Footing was decent, although the last 1/3 got a tad rocky. The final .2 was a steep little scramble, but nothing crazy. Legs felt great the whole way. I carried my boots in my pack and started in my trail runners. I ended up wearing them the entire trek. They have great traction: very grippy on the rocks, and much lighter and more nimble than boots. I jogged a bit for the first 2 miles before the terrain got rougher.
Legs were tired yesterday, but not crazy sore like they used to get after a long outing.
pics and video:
thanks dood! That shoulder shocker is a punisher, hard to lift arms afterwards haha
Climb was successful, views included!
Split squats are great- I'm really noticing carryover into my hikes.PRs: Back Squat- 410x1 / Front Squat- 320x1/ Bench- 325x1 / Deadlift- 505x1
