Question Bent over row weight used

    Hi guys,
Today I managed to lift 80kg for 8 reps on the barbell bent over row.
Correct form was used with little jerking and a good angle.

I’d like to know whether this is considered fairy strong or not. It was also an improvement from last weeks attempt!

    Thanks!

Probably my favorite back exercise. I alternate over/underhand grips each workout.

80kg for multiple sets of 10 is getting there. What matters is you're getting stronger. Height, weight, etc. Good job keep it up.

Thanks man. Out of interest how long have you been training for and what’s your current routine like? I like to know how others are progressing in their journey!

Consistently again for the last four years and everything is centered around the big three lifts. Train hard and have a goal, it matters more than you think.

deadhang pullups are a better measure of upper back ability. Level of cheating, ROM and body angles varies too much in BOR.

I consider it pretty strong, because it's a bit more than I'm rowing...but I do mine totally bent over, so my back is more or less parallel with the floor...none of this half-ass leaning tower of Pisa chit... my last pull day I did 165lb for sets of 8 reps.

Also, strength is relative...80kg is far more impressive for someone who is 5'7 150lb than for someone who is 6'2 200lb, etc...I'm 5'8 185lb right now pulling 165lb for reps.

Highest I ever made it to on bent rows was 210. Not many reps though, but it was exciting to cross into the 200's. Days long past though, I don't think I can pull that anymore.

I just started doing bent over rows for the first time. Back angle is probably around 45 degrees and I pause at the top. I'm a small guy (5'7", ~150 pounds). At this point with a few weeks of training I could probably deadlift 500-525 (all time best is 550). I struggle to row more than 135x10 with good form paused at the top (no cheating at all). So that's one point of comparison for you.

A bent-over row (or barbell row) is a weight training exercise that targets a variety of back muscles. Which ones are targeted varies on form. The bent-over row is often used for both bodybuilding and powerlifting. It is a good exercise for increasing strength and size.
