Ia 30 too old to get in shape?

I need to lose about 25kg which is quite a bit of weight, but everytime i set my mind to it i have these doubts if its gonna be worth it because of my age. Also i am not known for my patience. I tried going to the gym, but i lose faith so quickly because almost everyone there is built like a greek god

Why would it be too old to get in shape? Realistically, you have 40-50 or more years to go, based on average lifespans. Do you actually think that being out of shape now means that you have to stagnate for the next several decades?

It's never too late to become healthier. I really wish people wouldn't think it is but you only have to look around outside to see how many people give up on themselves. Do try.

I started at 42, lost 55 lbs... Now 45 and in the best shape of my life.

Not sure why you would think 30 is too old, you're at the age where people still haven't even figured out what they want to do with their lives.
All it takes is consistency, effort, proper nutrition, good programming, and time.

No, 30 isn't too old. I didn't get serious about diet/fitness until I was about 31/32, and like xsquid above, I'm now in the best shape of my life at 39.

Get over the mental hurdle and just get started...the sooner you start, the sooner you will see results, and the sooner you'll feel better about yourself.

Lots of youtube channels over 40, over 50 transformation.

30 is a great age to get in shape.

I'm 55 now. Doing yoga since January. Flexibility and balance getting better, pain is gone. I'm going for function primarily.

Had to watch my sis after her motorbike accident a few years ago losing her independence. She couldn't even brush her hair. I tried to do the exercises she had to do in rehab - and I couldn't....

Don't think so much about age. Just do it. And don't mind anyone's bad remarks about it.
    People will laugh and giggle.
Nevermind in 5 or 10 years you'll be in the best shape ever, if you keep the discipline to do it regularly.

IMHO, regularity and discipline are much more important for beginners than weight gain.

You will get pain, injury, bursitis, tendonitis, cold and flu. Just get going again after the cure.

Angles are getting smaller, larger, range of motion increases. Instead of a fiddly schoolboy pushup you get down and can keep your nose and whole body half an inch from the floor before slowly pushing up again.

And the satisfaction of getting to perfection is great

I got my best ever long distance running result at age 30, beating all of the times I got in my 20s. At age 35 I now have more muscle than I've ever had before. Feel free to look at my progress pics - they're all from age 33-35.

If you don't enjoy going to the gym, try working out at home. I spent under $400 building my budget home gym.

There are excellent examples of people who transformed their body after 40 yo (and even after 50) on this forum.
At 30 you are still young for everything but old enough to take the responsibility for your actions and lifestyle.

I tried the home gym route a few years back. Got a decent Olympic bench and squat rack but found myself getting bored and constantly had to buy new weights all the time as strength progressed. What is your set up?

I only started working out at home out of necessity - the time window I have to train is 5:30-6:30am, so having to drive to a gym would mean shorter workouts. I have a cheap squat rack, a chin-up bar, a flat bench from Kmart, adjustable dumbbells and a barbell and plates that I got cheap from tip shops, plus a few others purchased second-hand.

The company line is that it is never too late. While I agree that you can start at any age, I have to say that starting tomorrow is too late. Take some baby steps today and get started (even if it is making a plan or reading the forums).

Age is only a number, the only limit in place is your mind. Take me for example, I'm 36 and let myself get out of shape when I got out of the military. Now I'm hitting the gym 5 days a week for an hour a day and cutting my macros in half for a few months. True I'm not as fast as the young bucks in the gym but, I'm getting there xD stay strong and keep fighting the fight!

30 is nowhere near too old. I started (this time around) at 53 years old, lost 75 pounds and am in the best shape I've been in since my teens. I could run circles around my 30-year old self and then kick his ass afterward.

Losing weight is primarily going to come from your diet (caloric deficit - consuming less calories than you expend). Read the stickies at the top of this forum and the "Nutrition" forum, set your calorie intake to an appropriate level and have patience - it doesn't happen overnight. Get on a well designed strength training routine - there are several recommended ones in the stickies of the "Workout Routines" forum. Don't try to make up your own routine, because the reality is that it will probably not give you the results you want. Stick to a program designed by somebody who knows what they're doing.

If you have a solid plan and take action on it, you can make incredible progress in a year from now.
You have 2 options now: You can take control of your results and responsibility for your health and physique, or you can rationalize that it is too late and futile and descend in a downward spiral of not caring as your health deteriorates.

It is never too late to lose some fats mate, i am on the same journey with you
Losing weight was very hard for me even when I eat reasonably well? I tried out this http://bit.ly/31oBnAB Fatty Liver Fix guide and now, i am getting used to burning my fats and building my body to stay fit.

There’s people in their 60s still working out, some of the people in my gym who are in their late 40s lift more than me and I’m 23

30 is definitely not too late

I'm 34 and lost 20kg since Feb. Admittedly I was working out before that but my diet was trash. It's never too late to start and once you really set your mind to it you'll be surprised at how easy it actually is and you'll kick yourself for not doing it sooner

I guess because it will probably take such a long time to lose weight and gain muscle. I dunno if it will be worth it in the end

Nope, sounds like a premeditated excuse. I'm 29 and still progressing. Lost about 60-70 pounds of fat in less than 2 years. And put on a considerable amount of muscle. Just takes consistanty
