nissan/infinity are notorious for using the lowest quality interior components.

I'm a fan if Nissan and drive a pro4x Frontier. Would steer clear of the Maxima simple because I won't buy a CVT.

True, there's virtually no difference between a Ferrari and a Hyundai. Even less difference between a Semi and an F150. Really, all autos are just boats with wheels on them.

One thing they get right are the seats, most comfortable ever. Like the exterior styling, stands out on the street. Don't like that CVT though.
I think the higher trim Camrys are beautiful but that interior slanted dash is an acquired taste. Toyota is pretty reliable though.

The CVT is the nail in the coffin. The car is garbage for as long as it still has the CVT.

There were/are some issues with the CVT, but Nissan isn't the only one having trans issues, in fact most companies are, just that it's become a topic on the internet turning the failure rate into what seems like a much higher rate than it actually is. If you actually service them and don't abuse them like so many owners, maybe it wouldn't happen. Most of these people with issues would have torn up any other vehicle. What baffles me is hearing Toyota and Honda owners who just had to replace their engine or trans who will sit there and say "well it's been very reliable except that engine blew one time, no big deal" and then go on to say they have never had a problem with it. Okay.

Most of all, Nissan will extend the warranty past 60K miles and do what they call Goodwill over 100K where they partially pay, such as a 60/40 split where they pay 60% say at 100K. Most car companies, even Toyota, don't do that. You are a mile out of warranty they go NC on you. The way Nissan bends over backwards for their customers honestly annoys the hell out of me because some don't deserve it.

Finally, V6 CVT's are different, use an actual chain instead of a belt, very low failure rate. What kind of sucks for me is that they have pretty much fixed the CVT Issue. Haven't seen one 2019 Altima with a failed CVT when we were getting them fail right off the truck.

Most of all, I haven't seen a single Nissan engine fail unless it was due to neglect or abuse except a few that failed early in the warranty period.

Wow, I think I've seen the melting dash thing only twice on some older G35's and they were from Florida. Actually not many interior issues. Very little issues with the HVAC which is more common in other brands, such as leaking evaporators and heater cores, we rarely see them. Also, the fact you're bringing up the dash melting issue, which although rare, if that is the only thing to worry about it must be pretty solid.

    As per most people.

Not entirely true but many of the same sources yes. Note the Takata airbag recalls. Takata makes airbag components for multiple brands. Delphi is used in many car brands.

Bottom line: Your vehicle's reliability and longevity has more to do with you, than the brand of the car. A lot of the compaints you read about are simply from the kinds of people who tear their cars up and expect someone else to fix them. It's like people who complain about the "cheap plastic door handles" (which we don't get many compared to other brands) you watch them go get in their car and you're like "yup, there's the problem" because they jerk the handle hard AF every time they get in and out.

Thanks for clearing that all up. I had a big hunch that people with failed cvts were the ones with a lead foot simply because of how cvts work.

But I was just pointing out the fact that a lot of people who make comments either have never owned a Nissan and they spout stuff that they hear from others and it becomes a "thing" which isnt good for any company.

As for the materials thing, many plastic parts on my so called "most reliable" car - Lexus, failed. The car has its host of problems. Yes, you will get parts that are badly designed from the beginning like Takada bags but the manufacturer fixes that at no charge and these things rarely happen since cars are heavily tested before being sold.

One thing I do have to say and it is what it is, is that even mechanics will have the wrong info in terms of manufacturing. People like Scotty Kilmer thinks he knows everything about a car simply because he works on it. But he spouts so much bs that it does hurt other companies.

Not sure if I would ever buy a Nissan. The Xterras are nice but it seems like most of their cars from the 2000s are junk.

Maybe they're changing though. Does look pretty nice.

I've had an altima and now driving a maxima. No complaints, not one issue with nissan so far aside from 1 issue which is a prompt/delay that asks you if you want to upload wireless data. I highly recommend nissans, theyre great!

LOL this is too true. We literally use the same suppliers for nearly everything. We just put a different shell on it. Of course if there is a bad batch from the supplier it's probably gonna be at one of the manufacturers.
