You think a simple 2 day class is going to change things? I could care less. I'll take the 2 day class, it's pretty relaxing actually.

Lots but, the burden of negligence would be put on the negligent party. As opposed to the burden of negligence being on the general population, and any officers working with the negligent party. Lots (a larger handful) of officers getting shot in the back by other officers in the past few years.

I don't know why people are being hard on cops. Every interaction I've had has been good. Last week the police talked a guy down from jumping off a bridge onto the highway in Waco.

Even the UK cops are fine. They have different levels of protection, armed and unarmed. Most situations do not need a gun.

And yes, it [IS] easy to pass the academy but it is [NOT] easy to be on-scene with little information. Imagine having to consider all possibilities of any particular incident + your plan + the outcome + the consequences. Its a job which most people would likely pass out from or cower away from just from the mere thought of having to process so much in your head with little to no information. BTW, most complainants on "suspicious persons" calls are wrong, misinformed or exaggerate.
Terrible excuse. We have 18 y/o soldiers deployed in combat zones and they are expected to follow the rules of engagement and to properly identify their target. Again, 18 years old... fresh out of HS and more often than not their Commanders give them far less intel to work with than that Dallas police officer had! If/when soldiers make a mistake, the nation calls for them to be thrown into Ft Leavenworth. Yet, we have VETERAN police officers who repeatedly fail to correctly do their job and as a result they're killing innocent civilians inside of their homes!

Police officers do not have the most dangerous job, hell being a cop isn't even in the top 10 for most hazardous jobs (https://www.themarlincompany.com/blo...ous-jobs-2019/). This "I'm so scared, scared for my life" BS needs to stop! They CHOSE to be a cop, if they're too scared to do the damn job then they need to quit and find another line of work.

Wow, so you want officers to draw their weapon, and take that possible half second to flip the safety off? Not like they'll forget to do it, under a high stressful, adrenaline filled situation.....

I applied for the San Bernardino police department before. Mind you, San Bernardino is one of the most dangerous cities in the country, not sure if it's as bad as Chicago but it's up there. I didn't pass the interview

The rejection letter just said they couldn't give me the reason why and not to ask. They did have a lot of applicants though. Some of the other applicants had college degrees and I only had a high school diploma.

There is clearly a major problem with the training police officers are receiving and instead of acknowledging that, you launch attacks at people who do recognize there is an issue. The point still remains that young soldiers on an actual battlefield are displaying more professionalism and bravery than the trigger happy, cowardly, cops that plague our nation's police departments. There is a HUGE problem with police culture and it needs to be addressed! Nobody is forcing anyone to be a cop, if an individual is scared to do a wellness check on a home they aren't fit to be doing that job! I'm tired of hearing how fuking scared all these cops are. I would rather have a person who is incompetent with a firearm not handle one. But if they do, I would prefer them only to be a danger to their self, as opposed to being a danger to anyone around them. Unintentional discharges ruin 2 lives, and cause LEO's to be looked at in a bad light.

Some numbers. The NYCPD averages 48 officer firearm discharges per year in an "Adversarial Conflict". Yet they experience an average of 22 unintentional discharges per year. So 45% of the time they discharge on duty, it is an unsecured shot endangering everyone within 4-500+ yards (a 124gr. 9mm is still traveling at 350 fps @ 2400 yards) <-so I was being generous with the lethal range.

    Who killed Joshua Brown?

Also, you can dig up tons of negative stories about the military, and start a rant of "Hurr durr, what's with all of the sexual assault going on in the service?"

What's this HUGE problems BTW? We have bodycams now, and they're actually proving that we're in justified shootings 99.9% of the time.

In the heat of the moment, no matter how well trained, an officer needs to be sure that they're going to actually fire their weapon, because they don't want to discover nothing happens because the safety was on.

I mean, look at the knife at 30 feet test, now put a safety in that scenario.

Do you have any idea what the trigger pull is on a Glock? Accidental discharge is comical.

The problem isn't accidental discharges lol. If cops were issued 1911s or M9s and taught to carry with the safety on it wouldn't result in a single less death.

To my knowledge in all of these cases the police officers aimed and intentionally fired at these people. The problem is in the threat detection training.

Actually it would, it would result in more cops losing gun battles which is why they switched from the revolver in the first place

No amount of logic is going to change her mind. Majority of shootings take place between 7-15 ft and within 2.5 seconds. So hey.....let's put a safety on that firearm.

It wouldn't be less deaths though it would just be a dead officer instead of a dead civilian and given your occupation I could understand why you wouldn't want that. I haven't seen your opinion about what we should do in this thread. Is more training the answer, a more stringent application process or something else? I'm genuinely curious as to your thoughts on the matter.
