One of your rare tolerable posts. I do agree that in the past, as in history, dems and repubs at that point do move toward the center. However, IMO, we are living in times of the greatest divide our country has ever experienced. And, in a remarkable short period of time. It is getting worse, because violence has already started which on much of the MSM isn't reported because it doesn't coincide with their political agenda.

Dems moving to the center once there is a sole democrat candidate, was the case. I think they are going to market to the center for them to come further left and I think they will still keep most of the social programs in their quiver because that is all they are running on. They can't go backward or they will lose credibility - and I use credibility very loosely.

We'll see. Why would they do something that runs opposite to what their internal polling tells them? The reason Biden was the leader out of the box is because he's seen as moderate and tolerable to the folks in the rust belt. Do you think Warren will just ignore those voters when her polling shows her not appealing to them? Of course she'll come to the center.

Just wondering how you can think education has value when you claim to be educated yet you completely missed the mark on his very simple comment?

Experience and the experiences of others. A lot of degreed people out there working shyt jobs or unemployed (I know the job market has supposedly improved a lot, but I always take those numbers with a massive grain of salt).

I finished a Masters in Accounting after the Navy, and spent practically 2 years either working shyt jobs or unemployed (I was in San Diego during that time, so that may have been a large factor) - many people with similar stories. I finally landed a good job/career, but it took a long damn time despite the "education" in something that is far more "marketable" than Philosophy- hence my massive level of skepticism. I would be interested in a break down of the supposed careers these alleged philosophy majors are acquiring. Unless a bunch of them are becoming Officers in the Military - that's one of the only plausible scenarios imo.

My primary concern with the far left is how they perpetuate everything they claim to fight. They want to end racism, but hate white people. They want to end sexism, but shame any slight form of masculinity. They say they are male feminists, yet they are just covering their own tracks of creepy, molesty behavior. Seems like the most extreme of them even want to normalize kid-diddling.

The alt-right, on the other hand, don't seem majority bigot at all. (Which the left does.) The alt-right seem to be autistic 4chan trolls who can't break character from perpetual irony and meme and baby babble slang.

Both sides suck. But the left right now are completely psychotic.

All the numbers say that having a degree vastly increases your lifetime earnings. Do you think these are false as well? Don't like lifetime earnings? Average annual earnings are way higher too. If there were so many underemployed folks with degrees out there, why is the average so much higher than those without degrees?

Good point Biden is the leader. But, Warren, who is running on all of the social programs, is in second and moving up fast. Pundits are saying that Biden may not last because of the Ukraine stuff. If he doesn't, there's Warren, who has run on all very left social programs. Other than that, she is now trying to create a social divide with class warfare. She tries to convince everyone that people are poor because the wealthy have all the money. How ridiculous is that?

Warren also has to deal with the wrath of the tech companies. Warren is a like a female Jekyll and Hyde.

    3. Art History

Art history is something of an easy target on lists like this, but there is a compelling reason for it: it’s a high niche subject that, unfortunately, isn’t translatable unless you want to pursue fleeting and increasingly insecure curatorial or academic roles.

Which would be fine, of course, except when you’re paying upwards of $50,000 (£35,300) to distinguish your Monet from your Manet, you need some kind of verifiable return. Unfortunately, this often presents itself as a choice between working at Starbucks to pay back those loans or starting afresh in a different field – complete with the extra debt that comes with it.

    7. Liberal Arts

Although liberal arts may be the go-to punch bag for all those ‘dumbest degree’ barbs, this might be a little unfair; after all, it encourages the development of critical thinking and other various soft skills that a university education is supposed to arm you with.

The problem is that’s all it does. In a STEM-driven economy, fewer than 2% of employers are actively looking to recruit liberal arts graduates as a result of their lack of vocational skills or work experience. Unless you’re willing to rack up even more debt chasing additional qualifications in order to bridge the gap, you’re unlikely to find much return on your investment. After all, all college degrees develop cognitive skills – you might as well pursue one with job prospects at the end of it.

What jobs did they get with that degree?

    9. Performing Arts

Many budding actors take the plunge into drama school, but like all of the creative professions on this list, the key ingredient to success isn’t taught in any course curriculum: talent. Although some famous actors have followed this path, many haven’t – the only constant is that an expensive college degree is not a requirement to be able to act, sing or dance.

Instead, the best way to break into such a notoriously ruthless industry is by constantly attending auditions, learning to develop a thick skin and volunteering on film and theatre sets in the hope of making a few contacts. While the 1% may earn the big bucks, the harsh reality is that acting is a poorly paid, unrewarding job; an existence tough enough as it is, without the additional burden of crippling debt.

    https://www.complex.com/pop-culture/...igious-studies

Religious Studies is just one of the various liberal arts majors in which the only possible career path related to your field of study is to become a professor of said subject. You can add Classics, Linguistics, Medieval Studies, and any other major that ends in "studies" to this list. These majors exist only to pad the university's curriculum and squeeze more money out of the today's debt-ridden youth. Don't worry though, these fields of study will make you far more interesting at parties, if your idea of interesting is boring guests to tears with anecdotes about long-dead Popes.

    3. Theatre

Ah, the theatre. And yes, all of you unwashed masses of business and marketing majors, we do spell it the British way with an "re" at the end. Theatre majors are the future administrative assistants of America. Fresh off the leading role in their local high school's production of Oklahoma, America's future colonial reenactors head off to college with a song in their heart and their best black turtleneck on their back. Soon enough, they realize that the majority of working actors in Hollywood were forced into the profession at a young age by insane mothers, and their chances are even slimmer than they imagined. This gives way to discussion of a "fall back" plan right around the end of sophomore year. What these now-jaded students haven't realized is that theatre departments depend on indentured servitude to put up their half-assed black box productions. Even the most prestigious schools will force you to be on stage crew and build sets when you aren't acting, in addition to actually going to class. This means that you will be working eighty hours a week while the future CEOs of America are drinking from a human beer luge comprised entirely of the torsos of nubile freshman sorority girls.

We hope it is worth it when you finally get to don a pair of tights for that leading role in a restoration drama you land out of pity senior year.

Here's a communication major, #6 on your list.

As with all degrees, significantly higher earnings than those with just a high school degree. Do you really want to keep arguing from your feels?

    1. Anthropology....

Did you just watch Indiana Jones, and now you want to be an archaeologist? Hold your horses, Indie! While you’ll surely learn interesting things and go on some cool exhibitions, a career in anthropology almost always requires a doctorate. Just a bachelors degree in anthropology is not enough.

    2. Performing Arts

Back in my acting days, I remember wanting to major in Performing Arts. I thought this would ensure my path to stardom. However, they told me becoming a well paid, and successful actor is more difficult than winning the lottery. The unemployment rate is over 9% and you’re looking to make no more than a little over 40,000 a year.

    History

Most people with this major usually go on to become either a teacher of history or a museum curator and a degree is not. However, the unemployment rate for a graduate with a History degree is at almost 18% and the reason for this is the lack of careers in this field of study.

    Music

You can either sing, play an instrument, or both. You either have a talent or you don’t. A Music degree is not going to change that. Save your money and start playing open mics.

    Psychology

Just like Educational Psychology, it’s not enough to just have a four-year degree. The unemployment rate for a graduate with a psychology degree is almost 20%.

    Poetry

I was part of the poetry community for a while. I performed in competitions and was even part of a group. I can tell you that not many poets make a career out of poetry. If you have a love for the arts, then do it, but be prepared for frustration. The unemployment rate is over 11%.

You don't need to waste money to get "educated" in those topics. Especially now with all the open courseware shyt available. MIT has ALL of its courses available online for free, YouTube has all kinds of Full Semesters of lectures from Ivy League Schools, Khan Academy, countless other resources.

This brainwashed BS narrative is why you have so many idiots spending 10s of thousands (sometimes even hitting 6 figures) on worthless degrees and then looking for someone like Bernie or Pocahontas to come along and bail them out. Encouraging kids to get Humanities/Liberal Arts/similar disagrees is simply irresponsible in the vast majority of cases. Derping about "lol conservatives hate education" doesn't change that.

Then explain why those with actual degrees make FAR more than those without. I've been asking this multiple times with no reply. If there are so many people getting worthless degrees, why do those WITH degrees crush those without in earnings by ANY metric?

if everyone's earning so much why is free tuition and debt forgiveness on the democratic platform?

The major makes a huge difference and there are plenty that are worthless. When I was in college, I threw bags for an airline. I worked with a guy who graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelors in sports management. He was a college graduate throwing bags with the rest of us and couldn't seem to figure out how to put his degree to use.

As for college, you're not entitled to go to college. That's a choice you make. And my taxes shouldn't go up, because you want to major in philosophy, or basket weaving....

And when it comes to earnings for people who only have undergraduate degrees, philosophy majors have the fourth-highest median earnings, $81,200 per year, out-ranking business and chemistry majors, according to the ETS. Bar none, philosophy majors have the highest salary growth trajectory from entry to mid-career.
