XTend Combined Review

This is going to be a combined review for multiple products from XTend.

Last week I ran out of supplements, so I bought a tub of XTend HydraSport BCAA Blue Raspberry. I received a promotional tub of this last year, and since I had liked it so much, it was the first thing on my shopping list last week. I already wrote a forum review on this last year. A week after my purchase I received a box from XTend, with three products inside:

P.M. BCAA Moonlight Mojito
BCAA Smash Apple
BCAA Rainbow Sherbet

The P.M. BCAA is a brand new product from XTend and I am looking forward to trying it out. The flavor sounds amazing. Even though I do not drink alcohol, I am looking forward to giving this flavor a try.

I believe I did try the Green Apple before and loved it. I can’t wait to see how the Smash Apple flavor tastes.

The Rainbow Sherbet is the newest BCAA flavor from XTend, as far as I can tell. To be honest, I could not believe this was included in the box. What a pleasant surprise! I simply cannot wait to try this flavor!

Even though my supplement budget is close to inexistent right now, I could not let this generosity go unanswered, so I went online and ordered three more tubs of XTend stuff, to make it a grand stack. I ordered the following:

BCAA Italian Blood Orange
BCAA Lemon-Lime Squeeze
Whey Isolate Chocolate Lava Cake

The Italian Blood Orange is a variation of the OG Blood Orange, which is my absolute #1 most favorite Xtend BCAA flavor EVER, and I can’t wait to see how it compares.

The Lemon-Lime Squeeze sounded delicious, and since I never tried it before, I added it to the lot.

The Mojito flavor intrigues me, though I don't know about the P.M. ingredients though, to be honest. I am usually so dead tired when I go to bed that I would never imagine I'd have to use a sleep aid. I might see the angels when taking this P.M. LOL ... Also, last time I tried a supp with GABA in there, my body wasn't very happy with it. Having said all this, I will certainly try it and see how I feel about it.

Went to Dunkin' Donuts last night and bought some ice cream for the kids. I voted for Rainbow Sherbet flavor, but I was outnumbered, so we went with Rocky Road and Mint Chocolate Chip. That was still good, but I did want to get the Rainbow Sherbet so I can remember the flavor before I pop that BCAA tup open.

Can't wait to try this stuff.

Rainbow Sherbet BCAA

Out of all the tubs in this lot, this one was screaming at me the loudest.
This HAD to be the first thing I tried.

I tried this in different amounts of water, and my absolute favorite taste was at 2 scoops in one of those large XTend shakers, with filtered water and some ice in there. The bottle says 34oz but I usually fill up above that line, so maybe it’s closer to 38oz? I really don’t know.

I will often mix a couple scoops in the morning before work, drop a caffeine tab in there which would dissolve on the way to work, and drink this in my classroom during the hours before lunch. Makes for a super delicious BCAA drink with a very good energy kick. I actually prefer taking my caffeine tabs this way now, because they dissolve in my drink and won’t hit my stomach too much, as it does when swallowing a whole tab at once. My caffeine tabs right now are the MuscleTech Platinum at 200mg a tab.

The taste is amazing. It tastes like rainbow sherbet ice cream and it also has a hint of bubble gum. It makes me think of a large bowl of rainbow sherbet with a couple sticks of bubble gum melted in there … LOL … I found the flavor a bit too strong with smaller amounts of water, so I will stick to 2scoops/38oz.

The powder mixes very well. You will have some initial chunks of powder in there but they will quickly dissolve. Give this mixture a couple minutes and it will get very clear. Also, when you are done with the drink, there will be no leftover particles at the bottom or on the sides of the container. I even mixed this in a mason jar with a spoon, and it mixes very well.

I also made a slurpie with this. I used 1 scoop, a bit of water, lots of crushed ice, and mixed it up in a NutriBullet. Tasted amazing. I am impressed.

The profile offers the same quality and transparency as you would expect from all XTend products. I won’t repeat myself since I already reviewed many BCAA products from the brand. Just look at the label and see for yourself.

This sells on the XTend website for $1/serving. For such a delicious flavor, I am fine with the price. For a less-than-amazing flavor, I would have an issue with spending $2/day for a 2scoop BCAA drink. For as amazing a flavor as this is, the price is better than decent! One suggestion I’d have is for this to be offered in larger tubs so each serving would be more affordable. I realize that this being a new flavor, the company probably has to see how the flavor does on the market, before offering a larger tub. In my opinion, a 90 serving tub would do really well for the flavor. I guess time will tell.

I already entered a review on the XTend website and will do the same in the store here, if the flavor ever becomes available. I highly recommend this product and this flavor! You will not be disappointed!

Had the Smash Apple tub open for a couple days now. That one is much sweeter, and will require more water than the large XTend shaker for 2 scoops, or it'll be too sweet. That's a good thing, because it'll last me longer

I opened this a few days ago and already had a few servings. Some were taken in the morning on an empty stomach, one large serving was taken as an Intra during a push-up workout yesterday, and one was taken late in the evening before going to bed.

I tried different amounts of water and found that this particular powder is sweeter that other XTend flavors I've tried so far, so I went with LOTS of water. For a serving of two scoops, even a large XTend shaker was not enough. I would probably say that I'd go with a minimum of 45oz of water for a 2scoop serving. Any less water and the drink would be too sweet for me. You won't hear me complain about that ... it simply means that the tub will last longer

The flavor is a great mixture of sour and sweet. You know, the sour green apples that are also a bit yellow, that'll be sour but also a bit sweet? That's the flavor I get with this, and I like it. It is refreshing and invigorating. I loved it as an Intra, as I was sweating pretty hard. With ice in there, it was a great Intra drink.

I made a slurpie tonight. I used about 1 cup of crushed ice and about 1 cup of filtered water, and only 1/2 scoop of Smash Apple. The flavor was accented enough and the slurpie tasted awesome. I loved it and will make it again for sure.

The label seems to be the same as most other BCAA varieties from XTend so I won't repeat myself on that.

A 30serving tub sells for $24.99 in the store which is less than $1/scoop. Also, right now, the entire XTend store is on a 30%OFF discount, except for a few newer items. This Smash Apple IS on sale, so you can get 30 scoops for $17.50 if my math is correct. Not too bad, eh?

I did not pay for this, but I would definitely pay for it!

Suggestion for XTend Folks

I opened my tub of Italian Blood Orange and will write my review on that in a little bit, but first I wanted to make a general suggestion, for anybody at XTend that cares



I like all the flavor varieties in the XTend BCAA line and I like to be able to switch between flavors throughout the week. I also like the Energy BCAA line … BUT … there are only three flavors in that category, so …

I’ve been using a Caffeine tab in my large XTend shaker cup, to turn all these flavors into an Energy BCAA drink. Been using the Platinum MuscleTech tabs which offer 200mg Caffeine. For a 1scoop BCAA drink I would actually break the tab into two pieces, and for a larger serving of ~40oz I would use the entire tab.



Been doing this for a couple weeks now and I just LOVE it! It gives me the flexibility to turn any BCAA drink into an energy drink if I feel the need to, which I usually do. I like the flavors in the Energy line, but there are only three. I loved the Mango Madness, but that tub is empty, so I am enjoying the flavors I have now, and turning them into an energy drink.

This might be a silly thing to suggest I guess, but has XTend ever considered offering Caffeine tabs???!!!

If they ever do, I would personally like the following features:

BREAKABLE TABS
Make the tabs breakable (line in the middle?) so one can choose full or half the amount of Caffeine. Or maybe two crossing lines: at 200mg Caffeine one could choose that full amount, or half the amount (100mg), or even a quarter of the amount (50mg). A can of Diet Pepsi is ~35mg Caffeine, and for many people that is a good quick fix.

DISSOLVABLE TABS
The typical Caffeine tab is not really made to dissolve instantly. Most are made like a regular pill, which means it’ll dissolve in your stomach. The MuscleTech tabs I am currently using take ~10 minutes to dissolve in my drink. I would like a dissolvable tab that would dissolve as quickly as your Alka-Seltzer tab, minus the bubbles ... That would be just great. Drop the tab in there along with the powder, shake for 30 seconds, and you’re good to go.

Two closing thoughts…

First, I prefer a Caffeine tab that is dissolved in my drink as opposed to ingesting a full tab with a glass of water. A dissolved tab won’t hit my stomach as much, simply because it’ll usually take me about an hour to go through a large serving of BCAA, so the Caffeine is ingested gradually. When I first bought this bottle of Caffeine tabs, my first two servings gave me tummy aches, and I figured it was because of what I just said … the Caffeine hit my stomach too suddenly. Ever since I dissolved each tab into different drinks, no issue at all.

Second, if this Caffeine tab ever becomes an XTend thing and ends up being sold in stores, I expect at least one free bottle of tabs, for making this suggestion ... LOL … just kidding, of course

Great review....all of this! I am on board with you ideas about the caffeine tabs. Being able to control the dose by splitting the tab would be great. I know, for me, that sometimes I need a little more or less, and using a whole tab is not always the best for me. I have a pill cutter, but a scored tab would be great.

I really liked the OG Blood Orange better too. There is something about the new one that is a little off.

I am going to try Moonlight Mojito tonight. The ingredients look decent, except for the GABA. I am used to taking 1 gram, but that is because I have trouble sleeping, even while exhausted from the day.
