Anybody have experience w a boring job and a stressful job?

Sorry if the title is unclear. Has anybody gone back and forth between a boring and stressful job (or vice versa?)

    Cliffs on me
    - has a boring/ non challenging job making 75k
    - moved to a management role making 130k
    - new job is long hours and lots of stress
    - new job provides a very nice life for me and family (wife and 2 kids)
    - thinking about going back to old job for more free time/less stress
    - worries I will be bored again AND have financial stress
    - brb grass is greener syndrome
    - can’t figure out another option

Anybody have experience a this? I’ve done a ton of reading/research that says being bored at work is worse for mental health compared to stress.

Ultimately you'll be able to retire earlier with the higher pay / higher stress job, and then you'll be able to do what you want

Think about it, with the current job you can save an extra 55k a year assuming you keep the same lifestyle and expenses the same. You could probably retire in 15 years or so at that rate

In a similar situation right now, high stress sales job but stacking massive amounts of cash. Would take it over less hours at a boring / non-challenging job any day of the week

Yeah dude don’t go back to a ****ty job because it’s easier. Look for ways to invest the difference in income so you can retire early. You’re still new at it too, keep at it man.

I've done both and I must say that boring work is worse.

The way I see it, there is no paycheck of any size that makes a boring job worthwhile (unless we're talking silly money, but this is irrelivant because I don't think a boring job with an epic salary exists), whereas a stressful job is tolerable provided you feel you're being fairly compensated for it.

Having said that, I wouldn't stick out either for too long, because both scenarios scream that you haven't got the balance quite right.

What about going down to the previous level, but also move to a new functional area? You could reduce the stress and responsibility, but be able to learn in a new role.

Save money in high paying job then you won't have money worries in low paying job later.
Use the high income to pay off all debts and save some cash.
Move to a smaller house while you still have income.

Can you turn the boring job into a work from home position?

I turned my chit job into a great job by never having to leave the house.

Thanks for the responses, bros. As with most questions like this, I knew the answer all along. I need to tough it out, work smarter not harder, and improve my processes, and stack paper for the future.

Don't make the mistake of mentally boxing yourself in with just those 2 options, there is a vast world out there and countless positions, keep searching and you will be able to find a role that is much better suited to what you value

I did this for years, had a weird mental barrier where i hated my job and my industry but kept seeking new roles in it, finally just was like "why?"

I do. 2 years ago I worked at a submarine making company as a system engineer. You can guess that these domains go very slow as the demand is not that high.
So basically most of my time at work was just being present, doing basically nothing, surfing on the internet, and occasionally work.

I swapped to the automobile industry. Now that's a whole different story. Clients coming on a daily basis. I'm doing 5-6 projects at the same time as a Hardware engineer.

I ****ing love the second option tbh. Yeah it's stressful, but time passes faster

That's sort of what I'm doing. Doing drug screens (collecting pee) at a medical clinic for people going to do short term contract work in a refinery. My side hustle is renting out furnished houses, all bills paid, by the week to the contractors working in the refinery. 23 houses/apartments, 83 beds.

I recently left a stupidly high stress job without having anything lined up and I’m happier than I could’ve imagined. Stress eats away at you, srs. I straight developed alopecia because of my job. Within 3 weeks of leaving my hair came back...
