I do cross arms because my arms can't do that other thing.

I don't which one is "better", but i was doing the Cross arm for a while, doing F5 Novice. I found it hard to hold my shoulders up straight, and if I did Olympic it would hurt my wrists like crazy.

So each time I reset my weights by 15%, I'd use Olympic, (which I could do because of the lower weight) and after a couple of resets I now have the strength in my wrists and I find my form is better with a much straighter upper back.

Just my experience, I'm not necessarily saying Olympic is better, but seems to work better for me in terms of form

I think most people could develop the mobility to do Olympic grip with more practice.

I don't front squat often but whenever I do I can use a full grip but when I first started just getting one finger on the bar with an Olympic grip was hella hard

    TY all for the replies.

I’ve been strictly using Oly and I’m getting better but am mostly wondering if I could do more weight easier with crossed arms... I haven’t even tried CA because my sole focus has been on developing proper form/muscle memory.

I’m not hung up on increasing my 1MR numbers but feel like now is the time to decide on which grip to permanently stick with so that I can increase my strength.

Maybe since I am clearly improving (slowly but surely) with the OG I should just stay with that/make that my permanent grip being I’ve already started to develop muscle memory with it?

I find it is much harder to do the crossed arm style as the weight increases. Oly style might be hard due to mobility limitations but I would work on those and/or use straps in the meantime.

I find both to be awkward, although I just started incorporating them into my routine a few months ago.

What I find works best is holding them with my palms together in front of my chin- is there a name for that grip?

Clean grip is generally recognized as better, as since many people use the same arms they cross it promotes imbalances and can cause some structural issues. Use lifting straps to get the clean grip if you don't have the mobility yet.

As you can see, you can go quite heavy using straps that way with no issues.
