Fat for Five Years and Two Million Dollars

For all you hard-core athletes, consider this fictitious proposition. For five years, you must stop exercising. You may walk only when absolutely necessary. Those with labor-intensive jobs would not qualify for the opportunity. You must eat 4000 to 6000 calories per day. Your diet will be dictated by the program' director. By the end of two years, you must reach at least 300 pounds. By the end of four years you must reach 450 pounds. By the end of the program, you must weigh not less than 500 pounds.

If you meet the criteria, you would receive 2 million tax-free dollars. Would you try this program?

I'm not convinced I'd weight anywhere near 500 pounds at the end of 5 years.

Also 2m not enough for a 5 year time period. That's only 400k per year to take like 10 years off your life.

I'd happily eat 4-6k calories per day for a few years for a few million dollars but there's no way I'd gain as much weight as the targets suggest.

LMAO. Great response. As others have noted, 2 million really is not that much money, especially given the likely health consequences and time involved.

    Change the statement.

I would love to eat 4000-6000 calories per day (preferably 6,000) everyday and NOT get fat... and you can give the $2 million to a charity of your choice.

    "Your health is your wealth"

At one point I ignored it as some old cliché saying, just didn't get the significance. As time goes by I'm seeing it as truer and truer.

Your deal would be swapping health for cash. I don't believe you'd come out of it and unscathed, definitely not after age late 20s or so anyway.

No thank you -- No Deal!

I've heard that too many people are sacrificing their health for money while they're younger but then must sacrifice their money for health when they're older.

    absolutely not.

I used to be fat. I would never want to go back there let alone be morbidly obese.

I dont care that ppl think you can buy a new body, I dont want to have surgery to deal with the excess skin and all the complications that come along with that. No 2 million or even 20 million is not enough for me to look in the mirror for 5 years and not like what I see.

Money isnt everything. My mental and physical health is more important.

I would not do it for 2 million but would for 10 million. It is a gamble but so is life. Cancer can be developing in anybody on this forum and they are none the wiser. I would just get a bariatric procedure in Mexico to minimize cost. I could fairly quickly drop 200 pounds. Then I could begin exercising earnestly and return to a healthy weight within another year. I suppose the ordeal would be a tremendous challenge. It would take at least seven years of my life and, quite possibly, shorten my life. However, if payments were made after reaching every one year milestone, that would be two million every year if the total payout were 10 million. I am 45. If I were in my 20s I would definitely try the experiment.

I do have cancer, and I still wouldn't do that. Cancer isn't the death sentence it used to be.

The only way I would do it is if I knew my cancer was terminal, and I knew the money (more than 2 million) would go to my kids, rather than taxes. Problem is, people with terminal cancer aren't usually gaining weight...

It is funny you mention people with terminal cancer are not usually gaining weight. I recently watched a segment about an obese woman who scammed countless people, getting free money and wishes granted for her "bucket list." This charade went on for a couple years before she was caught. This woman did not look sick and must have weighed over 300 pounds.

I don't think its worth it. I wouldn't even do it for $5m.

To give up your life for that long.
I'll prolly lose my partner and struggle to find another one too.
Plus there's a chance that I wouldn't even make it through due to health risks.

I agree. I think five years is too long, especially for people over 40. What if you would receive 5 million if you could reach 500 pounds, regardless of time? If you could get there in a year or two you would receive the money and free gastric bypass surgery if you wanted it.
