2-3 wks of extreme productivity followed by 4-6 wks of depression and lethargy

    Anyone else go through this?

For 2-3 weeks it feels like I'm Bradley Cooper in Limitless.

Then all of a sudden one day I hit a wall of crippling depression and lethargy which lasts anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks. I can't even properly maintain my email inbox at work during this time. I have to drag myself out of bed each day

How do I achieve a better balance?

No drinking, smoking, or any drugs. No meds either.

It sucks to know that I have the potential to accomplish/do much more but for long stretches at a time I feel like I have cinder blocks for shoes

I go through the same OP. No claims to back up what I'm saying but I think the adrenaline/euphoria/dopamine rush from a really good few weeks just depletes us. Gotta recharge up. I could go months at a medium pace but life is boring that way.
Then again, the really funny thing is you read my signature, now I'm home in Bel Air, ayyyy.

This. I also do most likely have rapid cycling bipolar disorder, but I'm not treated for it. It's hard work to learn to live with. The main thing that's helped me is meditation and keeping myself to a relatively strict routine.

In all honesty it sounds similar to bipolar. Your productivity is your manic stage alternating with the lethargy/depression where your traits are more negative.

If ever you feel some condition (mental/physcial) gets in the way of your functioning, that's reason enough to seek help/advice from a professional.

From the bits you said, during your manic phase, you don't have behaviors that could cause harm (to yourself or others) as it's directed towards work. That's good.

But when you get depressed.... to be honest I think the best thing you can do is keep yourself active and moving (with physical activity and goals) since the tendency is to have a decrease in motivation. Don't stop, because it's a negative cycle where if you give in to your lethargy, the more lethargic/unmotivated you'll feel.

I feel for you, depression is hard to address.

This. Wife does and I have worked in the field with many clients with.

Its a huge spectrum with varying degrees.

If its not severe to the point of being medicated then its a matter of pacing yourself and recognizing that your mood and energy is like a reservoir that once its used up your empty, so you need to ration it.

Ya think I might have mild bi polar. A few weeks of hitting the gym like crazy, killing it at work, cold approaching. Then few weeks of dreading getting out of bed. It really affects my work, relationships etc... I should maybe see someone I can abuse alcohol when in the depressed phase as well which I'm sure doesn't help

    Defo sounds like BP.

Just stay away from things like caffeine and other stims that can induce mania and ultimately lead to depression in the downturn
