Looking pretty spectacular!! I can’t even imagine how hard it is to keep that kind of conditioning. I spent the better part of the year re-comping to, and maintaining at, about 12%. Even at that BF% the lower abs are a bit “flabby” and a few days of “slacking” in the diet have visual repercussions. I really commend your dedication and ability to sacrifice.

    Hey guys
I’m new to this forum and sorry if I am in the wrong spot but I saw a few “older” gentlemen here that seem to know what they’re doing
I am 49 years old 6’4” and started lifting with my 14 year old son in the beginning of July
We go to PF 3 times a week and I am definitely feeling a little stronger (weights going up slightly)and I have lost 10lbs
I use my fitness pal app to track my calories and have set it to 40/40/20
My problem is I don’t see any visible results and don’t have enough experience to know how long it will take to see results
I read all the time about 8weeks this and 12weeks that but try to keep telling myself that it will take longer for me because I am fat(guessing 30+%bf)
Anyway, I would appreciate any advice from you guys if you could
Great to see guys my age and up in such great shape.Gives me hope even at times like now when I am questioning the work I am putting in to this
I see a lot of posts where people say they can’t answer without knowing the persons goals
My goal is to get big/then jak’d
    Currently 2400 cal/day
    Heavy lifts 3x week
    Compounds
    Please help

Dean - Good for you for starting your journey. I and others would love to help you but rather than hijaking Al's thread, Start a new thread by asking a specific question or introducing yourself. It will be far better received and you will be able to receive the help you need.

Damn, looking really lean and ripped! With the diet face to go along with it.

Nice work and good luck in the show!

Just wanted to add that right now I am the leanest I have been in my life and compared to your current conditioning I still look like a fat slob LOL. So thanks for the perspective. There is a difference with me just doing this as a hobby because obviously I am not competing but this helps me realize that I could push it a lot farther in the future. But my face is already more sunken than yours so I can’t imagine what it would look like if I was anywhere near as lean as you are.

    You look great tblodg15!
Keep in mind this is all for a "one day look"

    A. I don't care for this look personally but it's what the judges want. It's not healthy and I don't look healthy. In fact, I've had customers of mine, that don't know I compete, pull me aside and ask if I'm ok, if I'm sick...lol
    B. It's very unrealistic to think anyone can stay in this condition too long. All my thoughts for the day, all my free time etc... is spent on diet, meal prep, what do I eat next and when. Everything is revolving around my next show. And after the show, not that I'm looking forward to it being over because I really enjoy competing, I'll jump back up to 9-10% pretty quickly and then continue upward as I lean bulk.....for the next show lol

There's nothing wrong with pushing yourself a little leaner, even if you don't compete, just to go through the experience; to see what you would look like; or just for a personal goal to "do it". You really learn a lot about how foods affect you body and look. Most importantly though, is you learn that you are in control of your own weight/condition. You can control what % you're at or what you weigh.

My general advice is do what makes you happy.

Yeah, I’ve never competed, or got close to competition level BF, but I did experiment one time to see if I could do it...but I stopped after losing about 15 pounds to 150, and realizing I’d have to lose at least 5-10 pounds more to get to competition condition. Looked great in pictures, but I felt like a scrawny sickly beanpole at 150, and couldn’t even imagine how I would look/feel at 140-145 after working so many years to put on size. I’ve seen much bigger guys weighing 170-180 cutting for a contest expecting to compete as a middle weight and end up as a lightweight or even bantam by the time they cut enough. It’s ridiculously humbling when you realize just how much of your perceived “mass” is muscle and how much is (attractive) fat.

    Absolutely!
It's easy to underestimate just how much weight you have to lose to get really peeled.

    Compounds
    Please help
since you see yourself every day, you aren't likely to notice the visible changes.

try taking some measurements - maybe waist, chest or biceps. that will give you something to check against if you remeasure every few months. you can plug your measurements into myfitnesspal under "check in" to make it easy to check.

My general advice is do what makes you happy.
You have an amazingly positive attitude given the low bf. My last and never again trip below 8 I just felt lethargic and depressed. You've managed to beat that somehow, super props.
