    Working out with busy schedule

    Hello all,
Just curious to hear what the folks with insane schedules stay on top of their workout plans:

    My question is this:

If you only have a enough time to hit the weights or cardio what do you pick? And how do you move forward? I know it’s a dumb question but need some insight. My schedule with work and Home is so crazy it’s not as easy anymore...

    1. Weights

    2. Make time. I've done a high stress job at an investment bank, including 4 hours spent commuting each day - still trained 4x a week.

You are going to get the same reply as SP advice from everyone who is trying to improve body composition.

    Weights first and foremost.

Find time. Anyone can find 1-2 hour 3x a week if so utilise full body workouts.

I work 45-60hrs a week including emergency on call interrupting my sleep and training schedule and still find enough time to workout. Either get up earlier or go to bed later it's up to you just find time.

Loads of people have busy schedules if you want good body composition you will find time no excuses.

    I work 7-7 mon-friday.

I am in the gym at 5:15 am.

My issue isn't always just time, its all my other hobbies and interests taking priority because they are more fun. That's why I put lifting first, because if I leave it till I am tired after work, I will want to go work on the boat, or maybe catch some fish or whatever for a bit instead of lifting.

Asleep by 10 at least, weekends are free.

My biggest issue is I plan my day to get in there, eat as if I’m going, then when I’m getting close to the end of the day, I have to bail on going to the gym (NOT BY CHOICE). There’s some weeks where I can get it every day. And some where I was only in twice. Not a great time but it is what it is. I’m trying to make adjustments that fit this

    Go in the morning....

I am sure if you live in any big city they will have a 24hr gym. You don't need to go to the gym every day either 3x a week is fine (more is fine as well, not too keen with less).

Like I said if you want to change your body composition you have to make commitments. If you can't get to a gym then build one at home. I personally have both (home gym is nothing fancy but enough weights to do the basic compound lifts) then you have no excuse. Get a bench machine, squat rack and lots of barbell weights and you are basically sorted (some dumbbells may help).

I get up around 3am and start my day with a workout.

It's not a matter of not having the time it's a matter of making the time. Sometimes that means sacrificing things and getting up earlier, but if it's important to you then you do what you got to do.

I know those feels. I used to work in towing and recovery and there were days I was running off 2-3 hours of sleep or even less. And sometimes I would be lacking sleep multiple days in a row. But I still got the workouts in. Didn't skip a workout just because I didn't get enough sleep. And surprisingly there were times that I had been running off hardly any sleep, but ended up having a great workout.

    - Your mindset influences your outcome. It's time to take out phrases like "I can't" or "I don't have time" and replace them with phrases like "I will make the time" and "I will keep working at it until I find a way that works." Success starts with the right mindset and believing in yourself and your dreams.

Yep can be a right drain on the mind. Its all about commitment. I find that lack of sleep was not too much of a problem (I only sleep about 6hrs on a good day anyway) but it is the call outs whilst just getting to the gym they are bloody annoying.

Just about to start my session and the phone goes for urgent blood and off to work. Back down to the gym again after 2-3hrs work and a 10-15 mile round trip but if you want to succeed you have to make sacrifices as you highlighted. OP pick a training split that suits your needs and work hard 3 days a week is enough to begin with and will still get you far.
