an important distinction. With electric motors and other electronics, Power is the absolute most abused and fraud-ed number imaginable. Just think about how many cheap ass amplifiers claim "1,000 watts!!!", but what they don't tell you is that they can only produce 1000 watts for .0001 seconds.

Same goes for Tesla, they claim XXX horsepower, but as seen by them breaking down when raced, they cant sustain that power without breaking down, a deceptive practice at best.

To be fair - Tesla model S wasn't intended as a track car. People have drag raced them successfully with very good results (so I think the horsepower numbers are legit and those cars appear to survive repeated launching). Tesla IS however developing a track capable-model S (Plaid). Supposedly today put down 2 (as yet) unofficial 7:13 times, still in development. Porsche destroys it quality-wise. But I'd expect anything at 185k+ to have insane quality - If the Tesla Roadster at the 200k+ point doesn't step up the fit and finish, it will be fail - performance be damned - all the other supercar manufacturers manage to both quality and performance

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates recently revealed he bought an all-electric Porsche Taycan, rather than a Tesla.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded by saying his “conversations with Gates have been underwhelming.”

Musk is such a bitter little bitch. Like when he called one of the Thai cave rescuers a **** cause they told him his mini sub idea wouldn't work, and he got all butthurt. Are we sure he isn't a miscer?

Considering how much of a Porsche fanatic Gates is on top of him being who he is and the bottomless piggy bank that comes with that, him buying the Taycan should have been obvious. He did, after all, buy a Porsche 959 brand new and payed for a lobbying effort to allow for cars that were newer that 25y/o to be brought in for use as museum pieces and off highway demonstrations, so long as they weren’t registered for street use until the vehicle hit 25.

This is always the case with Porsche. Porsche is always more expensive than the competition. They are not trying to compete with Tesla on price or paper stats. They intentionally price themselves well above Tesla to establish the exclusivity factor and know their car will outperform Tesla on the street and embarrass it on a track, if anyone actually takes their Tesla to a track. Porsche is also known for publishing very conservative numbers that are easily outperformed on the street while other manufacturers post max times on a drag strip with slicks. Porsche has been manufacturing high performance cars for decades, tested their electric motor technology by repeatedly winning the 24 hours of Le Mans, and posted an official nurburgring time with introduction of their car.

Tesla has done a great job establishing the EV market so Porsche had a difficult task to enter the market and establish their brand with a higher level exclusivity and performance.

Apparently one Taycan has already left humanity behind.

I saw one of these in traffic last week and it looks awesome on the road. Pulling up to it, I thought it was a new Panamera or something before realizing they are actually out now. Looks a bit smaller than a Panamera but way way cooler. If money was no object, I'd definitely have one over a Tesla. But then if I had $200k to spend on a Porsche, it would have an ICE.

If I were gonna buy an EV I'd buy the Taycan. I'd rather buy the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo though. Best of both worlds.
