Tall skinny guy looking to gain weight

Hello everyone! Just to give you a brief background on me, I've been a runner for a while. I ran a marathon a few years ago and several half marathons, but for the most part I stick to around 3 miles per day. I'm 6'3 and weigh around 180lb, so I'm pretty thin.

I've lost some weight recently between cardio and renovating my house, and I've decided it's about time to cut down on cardio and try to gain some muscle mass.

I'm looking for some advice regarding potential supplements I can take. I was considering taking creatine as this worked for me years ago and I didn't have any issues taking it. I've also been trying to increase my protein and overall calorie intake while lifting around every other day.

My workouts are about 45 minutes long, I wait about a minute and a half in between sets.

Any advice would be appreciated, obviously I am new to this!

Eat more. That is how you gain weight. Well, to be precise, consume more calories. Eat and drink more, as well as more calorie dense, foods.

Track your daily intake and morning bodyweight. www.myfitnesspal.com and www.fitday.com are a couple popular free ways to do this

Creatine monohydrate powder, 5g a day, every day, any time of day, in any beverage, no loading, no cycling.

You also probably need to improve your workout routine

Thanks for the advice. By improve my workout routine, do you mean based on the time I spend per workout?

I mean that almost everybody who posts here with basic questions could stand to improve their routine, and also based on 45 minutes yes, that usually correlates to using too light a weight/not enough heavy compounds/not enough volume, one or more of those. That is not always the case, but 45 minutes is the extreme low end and is rarely enough time.

As said before eat more calories, I'd say 3500/4000 minimum. Try get at least 0.77g x ur bodyweight in lbs of protein and then as many carbs as possible

Like IAmEdible said above, make sure your protein is high enough. I would set a hard protein goal that doesn’t fluctuate (probably 150g?) and then make up for the caloric difference with fat and carbs. I agree that for muscle building at your size, 3000+ calories is a very reasonable (if not conservative) target. Good luck.

food is good as stated above. muscles need 3 things to grow. water + protein + energy. energy is equivalent to calories and carbs.. and lift heavy stuff!!!

Haha no because "healthy" is a subjective term that can mean anything thus it means nothing.

With regard to body comp goals, macros and the calories they provide is what matters and all foods are made up of macros and micros.

Meet macros daily. That's what matters for body comp goals.
