Has anyone tried this new strap from Spud Inc?
It's meant to attach to any straight bar and replicate the feel of a SSB on your shoulders.

I have not tried this thing, and I certainly don't want to bash Spud, Inc--I've never heard a bad thing about them or their products.
That said, an actual SSB gets the weight out in front of your body a little. SSB squats are a little like a front/back squat hybrid movement. It doesn't appear that the Spud strap will do that.
However, the Spud strap could be a great option for guys who just want to do back squats but have shoulder issues that prevent them from holding a straight bar in place.
You could always pick up some webbing from a place that sells rock climbing equipment and make something similar......it wouldn't be nearly as easy to adjust, but it would be a whole lot cheaper.[]---[] Ivanko Barbell Crew #29 []---[]

So I decided to get this a few months ago. While it certainly doesn't turn a straight bar into a SSB, it does provide a useful option for those with shoulder/mobility issues to perform a back squat movement.
The strap is heavy duty and adjustments are surprisingly easy to make.
A very cool and pleasant surprise.

The strap doesn't cover any part of the barbell that makes contact with your back.
As someone who has only been doing squats with a SSB (shoulder injury), it took me awhile to get used to that old feeling of having a barbell on the back. Especially being on the skinny-side and seeing these red barbell marks on my upper back.

Awesome that it doesn't take away from the center knurl, thank you.
I tried using the arm slings that are for leg raises today to replicate the spud SSB strap. it worked pretty well but I found it difficult to get the groove in my back for low bar squats. Did you notice that with the Spud SSB strap.

I just ordered the Spud Safety Squat Bar Strap at Black Friday pricing. I have been using an EliteFTS SSB because my shoulders won't let me do straight bar squats. I am looking forward to seeing how the strap compares.

My goal is to have so much equipment that I don't have room to workout. I am almost there. :)
