If Messi stays... man that would suck. I got real excited he could play elsewhere. As long as it's not City (or Liverpool) I'm excited about it.

1) yes kinda, but Mourinho is the best example of it happening at a top level. particularly Inter 2010
2) Not really, they were more 1 but not playing out with long balls so much. You wont ever see 2 teams go all out high line pressing for 90 mins, you might get 10-15 mins at the start of it but one of the two will naturally settle into sitting back as they cant maintain the intensitity
3) yes, its rare anyone is successful with this style but City at points and Pep's Barca wereLast edited by LukeS1; 09-04-2020 at 01:15 AM.

Barcelona don't deserve Messi at all. It's stupid that they get to keep him on a technicality which obviously goes against the spirit of the contract that should have allowed him to leave on a free transfer. I can't believe they are forcing him to stay after all he's done for them. If I were a top player I would want to stay away from Barcelona after seeing how they are treating their best ever player.
Now at age 33 Messi has to waste another year there. Barcelona has to desperately hope they somehow have a great season and that convinces him to stay.

I wish more clubs were like Ajax. If there stars want to move on they let them go at the first reasonable offer and wish them well
It means they attract the best young talents from all around because they know they will get playing time, good coaching and can leave whenever they want. It pays off in the long term6'1, 205 lbs

To trigger the clause and make it official yeh, but he shouldnt have awared the president/manager via a fax.
Go in there and have a private conversation, if he says he wont accept it think hard about putting in the official written request, but this approach makes it less likely they so no anyway6'1, 205 lbs

Theres always going to be a leak once it goes into writing like that. Messi would have had help drafting it from agents, advisers and lawyers, it would have been received by a PA and then shared with advisers and lawyers
I just think Messi should have gone in man to man, had a conversation and worked it out before putting the formal note in6'1, 205 lbs

So it seems like Messi is a definite to leave next summer. Will be interesting to see if he starts to decline now. Will be 34 before next season, surely the speed, acceleration and agility starts to fade soon, making him more of a playmaker. I can't see him still being able to dribble past 4-5 players in a row for much longer

City
Liverpool
United
Chelsea
Arsenal
Spurs
Barcalona
All these teams could do with/are looking for a top class CB but there just isnt enough around right now. I think thats why De Ligt went for such crazy money, there is a lack of top class, defensively sound defenders. Guys like Upamecano and Gabriel are getting attention, but they are just the best of a bad bunch. Laporte, VVD, and maybe Alaba if he stays consistent are the only world class CBs under the age of 30 right now. Varane relies on his athleticism, but doesn't have the instincts or positional sense to be in that bracket.6'1, 205 lbs

All worth noting CR7 has 83 competitve international goals (83%), for comparison;
Messi 36 goals in competitive games (51%)
Neymar 19 Competitive goals (31%)
BEWARE OF INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY STAT PADDERS. CR7 has sat out a lot of recent friendlies to avoid pointless minutes/risk injury6'1, 205 lbs
