btw excited to see messi in the epl next season or maybe jan, james tearing the league to pieces shows how overrated and low quality it's always been

david silva, mata, torres, aguero, xabi alonso - no player has ever failed coming from spain
arsenal gang, chicharito, alexis - all had monster careers in england but abject failures in la liga

ronaldo's career at united should be evaluated in that context given his cl win with them came before messi's step up

u wot? Chicharito was a bench player at United for a few years before bouncing around club to club. Hardly a monster career.

Real Madrid with ANOTHER terrible result in the Champions League. Sadly, this time they do get the equalizer in injury time to avoid complete humiliation, but it was still awful from them. There is a serious chance they won't qualify out of an easy group.

From winning 4/5 UCL titles in a row, and reaching 8 consecutive semi finals .... to then suddenly back to back last 16 losses and then not coming out of an easy group

I dont think a team has ever declined that hard from just one player leaving, its literally Jordan leaving the Bulls level

Real Madrid won 1 league trophy, dont go claiming a 2nd when we are only 5/6 games in

And the one they did win was with only 87 points, thanks to a horrible Barca side. Do you know how many League titles would have been won with 87 points during Cristiano's time at Real?

    Zero...

fair enough but you said madrid dropped off a cliff when they clearly haven't, it's moreso barca

madrid racked up 76 points in ronaldo's last season with them, in his 9 seasons madrid only beat an 87 points total by a margin of >6 (2 wins) twice, seems like ronaldo leaving has had absolutlely zero impact on them?

kind of like his zero impact on juventus and united?

This has to be the most cherry picked stat I have seen on here LMAO

In his 9 seasons they had less than 87 points only twice, 2018 they let go and concentrated on 3peating the UCL as the gap wasnt worth fighting for

whatever you think of the stat main point is they were always there abouts in the league, there was no uplift with ronaldo in the team or decline without him

so you're admitting that la liga was too hard for ronaldo and he had to focus on cl as a consoloation, interesting

It's not nearly that simple. First of all, they only won those last two CLs because of bad refereeing. A tournament isn't a great way to assess who's actually be best either. In a knockout competition luck plays a huge role, which is why Chelsea were able to win a Champions League when they were 6th in the PL.

Secondly, Real Madrid have been doing better in La Liga since Ronaldo left. Finally, while I really hope it happens, it's still unlikely Real Madrid will actually fail to qualify from their group. They are only one point behind the teams tied for second and there are still four games left to play. There isn't a great team in the group so Real Madrid is still more likely than not to make it.

That's fair. Blows my mind that despite losing Ronaldo, Real still has more talent on the roster than 90% of Europe but can't produce consistent results.

Yeh luck plays a role in any competition, you can always pick out multiple wrong decisions or pieces of bad luck that cost league titles also

The UCL is by far and away the biggest prize in club football, to win you have to beat at least 3 top sides, and all but one of the ties you have to win across 2 legs.

Prior to Real Madrid nobody had ever repeated, these dudes 3 peated and went 4/5. That is not luck, that is dominance. Most successful club side ever no doubt about it

No talk of United thrashing Leipzig? Was a fun game too, very fast paced. Good for Rashy to come on and get 3 (only other United player to do so is OGS), Pogba Fred and VDB all played really well, Greenwood with a fantastic finish to start things off

Yeh last night was fantastic for 2 reasons. The first half, when under pressure, we remained compact and barely gave them a sniff at goal. The second half, with this diamond formation and a tweak in personnel, they couldn’t live with us and the goals scored were fantastic. I just hope we can start replicating this form in the league as we are far too inconsistent. We should be beating Arsenal at the weekend, they’re gash.

for those watching the Antwerp - Tottenham game here's a bit of football tradition porn:

they're currently building a new stadium, about half of it is finished

the stand you see at the top in the pic above however is still standing and it's the stand you'll see from the main cameras

they had to paint it completely white for UEFA though... (srs) looks like ****

here's a view from said stand with a look on the new stands they're building, this is a few months old already though

I know the new stadium is necessary to be able to compete in modern football but looking at that old stadium gives me all kind of footy feels

everything is for sale except tradition

For the post above, interesting piece, why did they have to paint the stand white?
