I was disappointed with July's bodyfat loss and decided to ramp up from a -500 deficit to -750 or so. I was losing a steady 1 lb/week, but mirror results indicated maybe half that in bodyfat.
Fat loss progress has recovered since the higher deficit, although weight loss has moved even higher.
I know some of the weight loss is muscle loss especially in my push muscles. My bench and dip work sets have fallen a lot since the start of the cut 4 months ago (down 15% each, counting total weight on dips).
My other lifts have minimal losses. I started the cut with a 260 bench, 235 x 15 dip, and 300 row and the row's work sets have only gone down 5 lbs. Deadlift about the same 415 to probably 410 or 405 now (haven't tested it in a while).
My question is, where do you guys think that extra weight loss is coming from?
Can muscle loss on the push muscles really be responsible for a 2 lb per month discrepency? That doesn't seem right. Makes me wonder where the extra weight loss is going exactly.
Maybe less blood/circulation/lean mass supporting the fat tissue? If so I wonder if lean mass loss is not only inevitable for intermediate+ lifters, but required.
