Exactly 8 weeks post acromium shaving and bursectomy, pressed 120s x 10 with a pause

Really happy about this since for almost a year my left shoulder impingement has made it impossible to DB press without incredible pain and massive strength loss.

This was my first real attempt at pressing since the surgery, first set was 110s for 12 which felt pretty good so I tried the 120s and was pleased to get 10

The gym was especially cringy today with a 30% bodyfat Indian guy in a wife beater who was playing Bollywood videos loudly on his phone next to me, a kid in what looked like true religion jeans doing horrific cheated laterals with 45s and a Rilly Tough Guy who had to come stand right next to me to do his chitty DB curls to assert dominance.

I guess all that asshattery helped fuel a decent return

Shame about the angle but I didnt trust one of the idiots not to knock over my phone if I placed it any further away

Stronk work, man. Lifting post-injury or surgery can be a bit of a mind-fuk so good job getting back there.

And lol at the person playing music without headphones. I had an Indian woman on a plane so this with the same music sitting next to me. When I asked her to use headphones she just told me she doesn’t have any. Someone had already complained about it so the staff addressed her and she just started going on about her husband as if they knew him. Very odd.

Just made my day, I've been laying off - rehabbing my elbow, just been terrible, like can't even pick up a coffee cup. Getting up under the heavy rattles soon as rehab is going well.

That's amazing, Halfway. Great work there coming off surgery. I don't know how you persevere like you do.

July 18, I went to the gym after not having bench pressed for three years because of the major pec tear on my right side, I do a simple progression starting at 135 and ending at 255 and ended up tearing my left pec. It's not as severe as the tear I had three years ago, but it's made me deformed on both sides of my chest now. It's really ironic that in my youth, my absolute favorite exercise was bench press, now I look at the bench sitting there and all I can do is cringe. I'm in the middle of taking 6 weeks off the gym to see if I can move on from this injury, but man, there are days I just want to throw in the towel.

    Props to you!

Oh no, that's awful. I'm really sorry to read that, what chitty luck. Is this also a tendon tear or is it a muscle deformity?

I used to be a 455 bencher but there's no way I'm ever doing that lift again. Hammer strength and db only for the rest of my life.

Pretty much all I do for my chest now is 20-30 rep sets with the hammer presses, one arm at a time so I can tilt my body to minimize any shoulder and pec stress, just not worth going heavy on anything anymore imo

I'm not sure about what kind of tear it is, all I know is that it didn't completely tear like the other one. I felt the same 'velcro tearing' sensation and immediately lost all strength in the left side. I had to be rescued with 255 on my chest.....that's embarrassing as hell. It feels like the tendon tore where it connects with the deltoid. I really cannot afford to see a doc, so this one I'll just deal with.

Man...I somehow missed this. I was distracted with LWW and BB2.0

Nice work man! That is pretty incredible. Know the feelz about not thinking you will go 'heavy' again. Still something I struggle with, but all in all I have found happiness in just being 'fit' lately.

I too have found HS machines being a way to let my keep up and maintain. I still do A LOT of reverse grip, but I rarely go over 135. Just lots of MMC and TUT. I think I do manage to get 'at' it enough. I also will use odd ROM. Something I would never do with weight on there. I will alternate to coming down to my throat, and in the lowered position, bring to my lower chest. Then reverse and press. All diff kinds of stuff (only done very light).

Good luck man. I am still waiting to hear about the results this guy in my gym is going to get with stem cell treatment. I an eager to see how well he does. I'll keep you posted.

I am following up with my ortho on Thurs. A year has passes since my back and I am still struggling on and off. Want to find out what my options are. I may reach out for advice / perspective. I have been very procedure averse, but I know at some point it may be worth a consideration.

    Great job!

You're lying the wrong way on the decline bench... :P

This makes me really happy. I know how many persistent issues you've had with your shoulder going on for quite some time now so this is a huge win. With no wrist wraps or elbow sleeves no less, god damn.

Just don't push it too hard too quickly and revert back to square one. Play it safe and smart.

    Great work.

I've never been a surgery fan, but things like shaving and spur removal where they just remove problematic growth are great imo - I couldn't even DB bench the 100s without pain when this started being a problem this year.

I think I overdid it a little as my shoulder is a wee bit gross today, but the surgeon said its impossible to injure this particular proceedure, just cause inflammation

For the HS presses I pretty much only use the Wide Chest machine, one arm a time and have gone pretty heavy, I did 5 plates for 20 last week. Although I put the seat pretty high to cheat it lol. I usually try to do multiple sets of 20-30 with minimal rest, alternating arms. My chest is pumped to hell after, then I do some freemotion and call it a day

For your back maybe just cortizone injections might be the best bet, my L5 looks like chewed bubblegum and I've had a couple of shots which helped a ton. Limiting squat and deadlift volume to one work set of each once a week helps a ton too.

This makes me really happy. I know how many persistent issues you've had with your shoulder going on for quite some time now so this is a huge win. With no wrist wraps or elbow sleeves no less, god damn.

Just don't push it too hard too quickly and revert back to square one. Play it safe and smart.

    Great work.

the best part of this surgery was asking my new ortho how bad the arthritis in the shoulder was, since my other guy had told me probably shoulder replacement by 50 based on the MRI

The new ortho looked at me like I was retarded and asked 'what arthritis? It looks great for a 40-something shoulder'

amazing how wrong some of these dudes can be
