Stronger on DB bench relative to BB bench!?!

    Hi,

I know it’s not my technique as I have watched a ton of videos, people spotting me, however I can not BB bench what I should be relative to my DB bench..

For instance - I can DB bench 38kg dumbbells for 8/9 but only BB bench 80kg for like 4. What’s going on? Is this normal? Or should I just stick with DB bench?

It's quite possible to "cheat" yourself a bit with DB by manipulating moment arms and stuff. Or maybe you're just trained/fit DB better.

My incline DB is very similar or better than my incline bb just Because I train the DB movement so much more

Without seeing videos it is impossible to tell. I see very few people in gym use decent form on DB flat bench. Most have the equivalent ROM of taking the barbell 6-8 inches off the chest.
160 lbs and jacked is about as impressive as D cups on a 300lb woman

Hard to say without video but since your going heavy its possible your simply getting more reps out on the DB maybe because your more used to that exercise, maybe because the rep range is not a full rep & hopefully not because your doing barbell bench next second lol

it's likely because you probably train with DB's more often than barbells. You get better at what you're more trained in. If you replaced with DBs with a BB for your primary movement it would likely exceed ur DB numbers.

Interesting. My barbell bench is much better than my dumbbell bench. I'm currently using 70lb dumbbells 3x10 (slight incline on the bench fwiw) and my barbell bench I'm doing 225 3x10.

I agree seeing you doing them done people could give a better answer to your question.
Most of the time people don't bring the DB's down as far as a bar they touch the plates to the chest were as the BP the bar touches the chest.
Im only speculating though as i can't see your technique.
