Rep Fitness FT-5000 Functional Trainer thoughts?

I’m in the market for a functional trainer and have read through a ton of other informative threads in this forum. I’m leaning towards the Inspire FT1; however, the Rep Fitness FT-5000 caught my attention: https://www.repfitness.com/rep-multi...tional-trainer

Does anyone have any thoughts on this piece of equipment either in person or reviewing the pics? It looks like a solid piece of equipment but I’m afraid I maybe overlooking something.

It looks fine, but as yet the Rep FT's are unproven, I don't think there's been a review here yet.

The Rep FT's look the same as a number of generic functional trainers now coming out of China, I've seen a number of what appear to be very similar units appearing on the European market under various brand names. I'm not knocking these units, it's just that at present there's not a lot of feedback.

I'm just a little cautious with cable units and there's a fair amount that could potentially go wrong, IMO the Inspire FT1 is very good, is as smooth as any cable machine I've used and has a proven track record.

Just be aware that in the highest position, the Rep carabiner is only 52" off the ground. So getting proper extension on pulldowns is pretty impossible for most people. It looks like a good design, but the useable height is definitely a negative.

On the FT1, you'll notice that the double pulleys are stacked above the connection to the guide column. So you get 65" floor to carabiner. A pretty big difference and better than any functional trainer I measured (Life, Hoist, Body Solid, Bodycraft, XMark, etc).

The Inspire FT1 is a great choice to go with and has been a reputable one for quite some time on the forums, plus you can fit it in a corner of a room.

The pulleys are super smooth on it and the stock attachments are pretty solid and are included with it on the swivel holder it has to attach to it and the pullup bar it comes with is solid and knurled from what I remember of it (it also doesn't have to be attached up there if short ceiling heights are an issue from what I read on their FAQs) and even right down to the ease of the magnetic pin stack adjustments and the powdercoat on it was solid.

Functional trainers are a luxury piece at best, but after all the essential bases are covered, you can't go wrong getting one if you have the space and means for it (in my opinion), it just adds an extra element of fun to the routine and there's a lot that can be done on it in one station.

The Inspire FT1 is a solid choice. I've had mine for many years and have never had a single issue with it. Mine gets used almost daily by two people and it still looks like the day I got it. Plus, you can find them in many specialty fitness stores in most States in the US so you can always go and try one out. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Appreciate the input, guys! Reading some of the older threads, it sounds like some were able to score a Inspire FT1 (with the additional weight) for around $1,800 or so. Any idea which online supplier might be willing to sell at this price?

52"?, damn that's low, I guess triceps rope press downs are out. On my Bravo 78" to the pulley attachment point.

Just a heads-up, but that info might be old. Maybe it was accurate on the old design, not sure. Here is current:

That functional trainer is much larger and heavier duty than the FT-1. A more comparable functional trainer would be our FT-3000:

I believe a while back I got a quote somewhere around that price at Total Fitness Equipment (not sure if that workout equipment store/chain is in your state, or not), but it might be worth checking out if you find one of those stores local.

Thanks for the info, guys! In my area, it looks like Johnson fitness is the only permitted Inspire dealer in my area. I didn't realize Inspire can create/enforce dealer territories...shows you what I know. I contacted them and they offered a somewhat competitive price. Decisions, decisions.

If you're not in a hurry, watch for a good used FT1. I watched an area up to 4 hrs away and for about 5 - 6 weeks and found my Inspire FT1 with the upgraded weight stacks and the complete line of TracHandle's plus the stock attachments for only $750. It was only about 8 months old and like new.

That's a sweet deal! I seen an FT1 (older model, but it great condition) posted once for $700, but it was in Chicago which was out of the question for me being from Connecticut, had it been closer I probably would've jumped on that deal.

Yea, must've been the older design then.

Hard to tell from the pic, but the FT-3000 looks to be about 54-55"?

I came across one for $400. It had been posted less than an hour before, but when I messaged the woman said it was already pending pickup. I was super disappointed. :/

Whoa! That's an insane deal for a FT, I once seen a C2 rower for that price in the area, but the ad was already taken down not too long after I messaged them asking about.

Different price range, but I think this is actually a 2:1 ratio, not a 4:1 ration machine like he told me. His saying it's a 4:1 may be what prevented him from selling it. Also, he's dropped the price.

    https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...2041596020835/

For anyone who wants to take advantage of my not realizing this, if you ask him for the serial number which will be engraved near the bottom of the machine, you can enter the number into the cybex website and confirm it's a 2:1 ratio machine.
