    YES. Talking to ATC Was my biggest fear when I had to do a solo cross-country flight. The airport I train at has no control tower so I only really had experience talking on the radio to other pilots in the area. ATC is intimidating. But I told them I was a student pilot and they were pretty patient with me not knowing all the lingo and needing a couple things repeated.

    How’d you find the time? My buddy is a flight trainer and offered me lessons for the cost of flight time. I have kids and just don’t have the time for all the chit necessary to get a license.

    Took me like 9 months from start to finish. I’ve heard of people doing it in 2 months though. But you would have to be in an area with good weather to fly almost every day. Money was also an issue, and I ended up having to stop multiple times due to running out of money.

    Cost-wise, it was $155 an hour to rent the plane plus $55 an hour to my instructor. I got my license at about 65 hours total. 210x65 is $13,650.

    There were some solo flights included in those 65 hours where I only had to pay for the plane and not the instructor, but once you add the cost of books, charts, an iPad (not required but recommended), a $350 online ground school course, aviator sunglasses, ground lessons with my instructor, $100 to take the written test, $750 to take the check ride... the total was probably around $15k.

    Ways you can do it faster and cheaper:
    1. have all the money available at the start so you don’t run out and have to take a long break
    2. Fly multiple times a week. You’ll learn faster if there’s not long periods of time between lessons. Flying every day is not recommended though.
    3. Online ground school - it was $350 for the ground school course that could be completed at my own pace vs paying $55 an hour for ground school with an instructor for who knows how many hours.
    4. Get the studying done early. You can take your written test before ever stepping foot in an airplane. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend that as its good to actually practice what you’re learning, but I regret procrastinating taking my written test. Get it out of the way early and you’ll know a lot more sh*t, which means you won’t need as many lessons.
    5. Cessna 172s are cheap, Cessna 152s are cheaper. Your flight school might have one.
    6. Fly somewhere with good weather. If all your lessons are getting cancelled due to weather that will slow you down a lot.

    The minimum hour requirement to get your license is 40, average is 60. If you do it right you can save a lot of time and money

    I found the time because I’m a 23 year old pizza delivery driver, and flying is what I want to do as a career. But you can do it if you want to brah. You can do it at your own pace, even if it take you 2 years to get it done it’ll be worth it

    the normal route is to build your hours as an instructor, after you get multiple licenses. If you don't want to instruct, you either have to know someone, or get lucky (or be a girl) for a decent starting gig. Being a pilot is a long and expensive process that requires a lot of your time. heli training is almost double the price of fixed wing, and doesn't have nearly the same amount of end game rewards or opportunities.

    Seriously I've always wanted to get my pilot license and own a bush plane.There's a private port 30 minutes away where I could keep the plane and take off anytime I want.There's over 100,000 lakes in my Province and at times I would love to fly off into the wilderness and get away from everyone and everything.Just fly for a couple of hours and land on some unnamed lake and camp and fish for a few days.

    I reaaaaaaally wanted to fly helicopters. But training in a helicopter is about 2x as expensive as airplanes. Someone told me “the difference between a helicopter pilot and an airplane pilot is how rich their parents are.” Not only does the training cost twice as much but there are less jobs and they don’t pay as well. That said, helicopters are f*cking badass. I still want to learn to fly them one day.

    And getting a job is hard and will require lots of time and money. I only have a private pilots license. You need a commercial pilots license, among other things, to actually be allowed to work as a pilot. And even if you have those things, you still need to get hours (usually gained by working ****ty, dangerous jobs) before anyone will actually hire you for cool stuff like tours or EMS.

    I think the best way to become a professional helicopter pilot is to join the army. Look into the WOFT (warrant officer flight training) program if you’re interested. Basically you can apply for it without having to sign up for the army, but if you get accepted into the program, you can go into the army as a warrant officer and go to flight school, guaranteed. That way, THEY pay YOU while you’re training in flight school, you give them a minimum of 7 years as a pilot, and then you get out of the army with enough experience to get any job you want. I seriously considered doing that, but with all the stuff politically right now I didn’t want to end up flying off to war with Russia or some chit and have to shoot missiles at people when all I wanted was to learn to fly helicopters.

    I would love to get a private flying license, what you paid is also cheap. How hard do you think it is to get a license for helicopters? I have a bigger interest in those, because you can land in a lot more places. Only downside is it seems Helicopters are much more expensive.

    Getting a license for helicopters isn’t gonna be much harder than getting an airplane license, just twice as expensive. And once you get your license, how often can you afford to fly when an R-22 costs $300/hr to rent? And that’s if you can even find a place that’s willing to rent their helicopters out to a pilot with low hours... I wanted to fly helicopters more than airplanes but it’s just not realistic unless you have a lot of money

    And eventually I would like to own a plane. Although I’ve also heard of some flying clubs where you pay a yearly fee, and they have a fleet of planes you can fly. Might be easier than owning a plane and having to keep up with all the required maintenance and upkeep.
