Red face Very Hungry After Workout- normal?

Hi y’all. Newbie and first time poster. I’ve recently started lifting weights and noticed my appetite has increased.

Can someone please explain why? Like, muscles are hungry so feed more?

Background: I have spent the last 7 months losing weight to get to a normal weight. Formally 166 down to 139 at 5’4 (female).

I lost weight by counting and restricting calories. But now I am interested in getting muscular and I am struggling with the concept of introducing more calories into my diet.

Exercise burns energy... so, you require more energy... makes intuitive sense doesn’t it?

Congratulations on the weight loss. Now is a great time to focus on building muscle to improve your physique. Yes, as Adam said, exercise requires calories and as such the body will send hunger signals. That doesn't mean you can trust the hunger signals, but if you've been effectively counting calories then you are ahead of the game and you will have an easier time going forward. Your body is primed for muscle gain, which will drastically improve your figure. I'd suggest eating at about your maintenance level of calorie needs, and start lifting heavy. Your weight shouldn't move much, but in the mirror you should notice improvement.

Yep. Working out makes you hungry for sure. Find a food that can calm it and works well for your diet. I do eggs and they work like a charm.

On the flip side, I started working out seriously about eight weeks ago and have lost ZERO pounds. My body is changing too, it's fairly obvious, so my fat burn is translating into muscle mass for sure. You may see no weight gain or loss, but as rhadam stated above, you'll see a difference in the mirror.
