I saw an old post regarding this dilemma. Some comments said there were alternatives to l-arginine for pre-workout supplements, but I don’t remember seeing any specific brands or formulas. I have been taking l-Citrulline (thus l-arginine) for improved circulation and experiencing cold sore break outs.
Apparently l-lysine can help, but I don’t know how much to take to avoid the cold sore breakouts.
Please reply with suggestions.

#1 - don't take arginine
#2 - look into agmatine and/or nitrates
#3 - If you still choose to take arginine (don't), match it mg/mg with l-lysine.
If you already have a cold sore, l-lysine wont help. In that instance something like Abreva and an ice cube is going to be your best bet.I got no strings to hold me down
To make me fret or make me frown
I had strings, but now I'm free
I got no strings on me
