I don’t understand how to get my 6-pack to show?

In summary: I’m trying to gain muscle while losing body fat.

Nutrition guides say I need to eat a bit above my “maintenance” in order to build muscle. Understandable.

SINCE THIS IS THE CASE, how will this help me also lose body fat to reveal my abs underneath (since I will no longer have a caloric deficit)?

I’ve searched the internet for the answer with no clear response.

what the guy above me said ^

i'll still give a brief answer: when you're building muscle, you won't be working towards making your abs visible (your abs will grow on a bulk though). the "working towards abs" part happens on a cut. you said you're like 25% bf, so i'd suggest cutting down a bit, then slowly bulking up

    just my 20 cents
munchies on a cut is the true test of discipline crew

You eat at a surplus to get your muscles (including your abs) to grow, then you eat at a deficit to lose the fat and get your muscles to show. Too much of one or the other leads to either excess fat or looking too skinny, so often it takes several bulk and cut cycles.

It's a slow process and the problem is you look at fitness models or professional bodybuilders with a rippling 6 pack, and what you might not realise is they've been at it for several years, not just a few months.

Abs? I'd rather have legs that treehuggers chain themselves to.

Jeez, just build everything equally rather than focusing. Focus is good as well as bad if not done right. Sounds like all you care about is abs which will look pointless on someone with twig arms and Mick Jagger shoulders.
I have a good joke about water retention. But I'm going to hold onto it for now.

I'm not an elevator, but I certainly do lift.

Going to the gym? Ha, it's just a weights of time.

Steroids and ass. They certainly go well together.

I'm the BB king..of puns. I train my back using only fish. I love my macker-rows.

Just to back up what others have said OP. Abs need to be built as well. For example, I lost a good bit of muscle on a long cut that I took a little too far. My abs looked a lot better at around 165lbs with more fat on my body than they do now at 142lbs.

That being said, you still need to have a relatively low bf% to get those abs looking the way you want.
