Why so hard to keep a championship window open?

    The 1980s-1990s Jazz.
    1990s-2000s Braves
    2000s-2010 Colts

Why is it so hard to keep a championship window open to longer than 15+ years?

Injuries and teams have to pay people. People age, motivation is lost, relationships change. The game changes overtime too. There is a dynamic to everything and eventually everyone loses. It's the way of life. People come and go, champions are no different. Some are around longer and put up a better fight, but there are many factors that contribute to a team winning and when one or two things change it can have enough impact to shift the odds.

The Patriots and Spurs are usually linked together; both teams have grumpy, no-nonsense head coaches Belichick/Popovich, both have legendary players Brady/Duncan and the teams are economically similar, they don't spend money on players with diva mentality, they always win and they are seen as boring teams with a lack of superstar talent.

Belichick and Popovich teach their players how to fit into their system.

Once the Patriots and Spurs era is over, other franchises will want to learn from them.

Championship windows are probably open for what, 10-15 years?

Some title windows are open for 2-3 years.

Championships are so easy. The fact LeBron doesn't have 8 proves he's a role player.

Then why are the Yankees, Lakers, Celtics, N.Y. Rangers, still in business? Yes, they are big market teams and they have money, but they are always perennial contenders.

Because it becomes boring for fans of other teams when only one team dominates for a long period of time.

    Competition is better for revenue.

Add in players wanting to get much bigger contracts after getting a ring(s).
