    were should the handles be positioned? above,below or level to the nipple area?

    Kinda depends on the machine, some have vertical seats and press up, some have 30deg seats that press at a different angle.
    ....64 years,....and praying to god that muscle 'memory' is real !!!!!

    depends on the machine, the arc of the movement which would be the equivalent of bar path. However, typically i would say that below the nipples would put undue strain on the shoulders. in a very general sense, i'd say lower to upper lower pec and maybe even the middle of the pec. Think about where your elbows go too. Elbows flared out and away from torso will put a lot of stress on the shoulders as well. Also, make sure you don't smash your nipples with the handles. what brand machine is it?
