It's another way of saying "God created everything through himself." If you read Genesis 1, you'll see God creating everything through his Word (pre-incarnation Jesus). "Let there be light" is an example of God's Word.

"Christ" means annointed, and there are many annointed.

That said, Jesus did not fulfill the prophecies that the messiah was supposed to fulfill. That's why Jews don't follow him. Because he didn't accomplish any of the stuff the messiah was supposed to. Jews and the world are still waiting for the messianic era.

Also, "Old Testament" never says we're supposed to worship the messiah, only that they are a messenger of G-d, and that it's really G-d accomplishing all of that stuff once the world is ready for it.
