Question Lentils wtf is going on!?

Hi everyone. I’ve just tried out a new recipe including red split lentils and I was led to believe that I’d be getting around 25 grams of protein per 100g of lentils?

After logging the ingredients into my fitness pal, I realised this was far from the case! More like 9g per 100g!

Now I’ve seen some other videos claiming you can get 25g protein per 100g of and I’ve even found a brand of lentils named “Natco” who indeed have 25g of protein per 100g.

Why is there no information out there on why there is such a big difference in what people are claiming? Can anyone shed any light on this please?

    Cheers 😁

Lentils have about 25 g of protein per 100 grams.
Make sure the app is not considering cooked lentils, which contain more than 50% of water.

This is correct; by raw weight it is 25g but after cooking they gain a lot of water weight and it becomes ~9g per 100g.

I enjoy lentils because they improve the quality of my poop.

also they're great with rice, filling, nutritious, and i have a great recipe for lentil stew that's tasty and nutritious.

but mostly because of the great poops

One cup of lentils provides about 18 grams of dietary protein, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Nutrient Database. You can consume lentil in different way, cooked lentil has the most protein. If boiled you will get 9g.

I think in the comments he mentions how he'd cook it without the pressure cooker. only the timing would be different, i believe.

If i were to go back to cooking more often i'd use the pressure cooker more often. it comes in handy and an electric one is pretty easy: no need to adjust the heat as the pressure builds.

EDIT: I usually will use boneless chicken, because i'm lazy, but the nice thing is that with a cup of rice it's super filling and you're double dipping on protein with the meat and the beans+rice. sweet macros and super sweet poops.
