Can you recommend some good hand grips?

I was looking on Amazon for some good hand grips. There are so many to choose from. What brand would you recommend?

Captain of crush, if you want quality tested grippers.. I just bought a dual spring adjustable gripper from aliexpress though. It was $40 vs the hundreds youd pay for CoC

In the past I had a CoC Trainer and a 1 which I found easy to close, and a 2. Right now the only CoC I have is the Sport which I use for higher reps because I didn't like the knuckle cracking I started getting with the harder ones. I started getting the cracking when I attempted the 2.

The CoC are better than the plastic spring grippers. For the correct size to buy, it depends on how strong are you now? Do you deadlift or perform any grip work now? I would start with a Trainer (100 lb), "Point five" (0.5, 120lb) or a 1 (140lb).

They aren't really made for high rep work though, its more for training in the low rep range, so if you do a lot of high rep work the spring might wear, albeit slowly, and get easier over time.

The handles are knurled so if you do not want to have a lot of callouses you might want the Zenith model, which I haven't used. The Zenith don't have any knurl and are less resistance than the corresponding CoC. I think the Zenith are more appropriate for higher reps.

    11 strengths to choose from

No. 1401 Captains of Crush Guide - c. 60 lb. (Novice, rehab)
    No. 1402 Captains of Crush Sport - c. 80 lb. (Warm-up, conditioning)
No. 1250 Captains of Crush Trainer - c. 100 lb. (Strong guys start here)
No. 1250.5 Captains of Crush Point Five - c. 120 lb. (Bridge to the No. 1)
No. 1251 Captains of Crush No. 1 - c. 140 lb. (Already gripping, start here)
No. 1251.5 Captains of Crush No. 1.5 - c. 167.5 lb. (Bridge to the No. 2)
No. 1252 Captains of Crush No. 2 - c. 195 lb. (Life-saving levels of grip strength)
No. 1252.5 Captains of Crush No. 2.5 - c. 237.5 lb. (Bridge to the No. 3)
    No. 1253 Captains of Crush No. 3 - c. 280 lb. (World-class: get certified)
No. 1253.5 Captains of Crush No. 3.5 - c. 322.5 lb. (Bridge to the No. 4)
No. 1272 Captains of Crush No. 4 - c. 365 lb. (Be like Magnus Samuelsson!)

    Each $22.95

LOL, no, no, no. That is a POS, I cranked one all the way up in a sporting goods store and crushed it with two fingers.

COC are the 'standard' and you will find them in grip competition around the world. I have a half dozen or so. If I had it to do over I would buy the Ivanko super gripper to train with and then whatever COC as a goal, I'd say the COC 1.5 is good start.

Since posting this I've been doing more research and Heavy Grips don't seem to have consistent QC. I'm probably going with CoC instead. I'd check out their website. Looks like they might be cheaper than Amazon, though shipping might make it a toss-up.

COC is pretty hard to beat, just go ahead and get Trainer--2.5 and be done with it. Shipping kills when you decide to get the next size higher a few times.

I read the Heavy Grip 200 lb is about a COC #1 140lb, and the Heavy Grips spring doesn't last as long before weakening. Theres some other nice looking multispring devices on amazon that look interesting such as the Ivanko, Dometool, Robert Baraban, and CFF pitbull.

edit: In addition to closing the CoC, you can hold them closed for time which is a pretty good grip endurance workout. You can also flip them coil side down or coil side up, or train fingers individually, and perform negatives with them (starting them closed with assistance from your free hand and gradually spread them).

Rogue has the COC set with trainer, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 for $92 in 3 ships free. I'm sure you can find some straps or other cheap things you need to throw in for free shipping.

I have this set and am happy with it. My grip strength isn't great so this is still more than enough for me:

Another vote for the Ivanko Super Gripper....more bang for the buck although it does feel slightly different than the Captains of Crush grippers but will develop grip just as well. Regret having got rid of mine after I bought a few CoCs

Get some #84 rubber bands from Staples so you can work finger extensions as well

Amazon has the Ivanko gripper for 30 bucks.

FWIW, My experience with grippers was an acute case of tendonitis.

I have CoC grippers up to #3.

I've been climbing again, so grip strength is important to me. These days, I don't use grippers to train grip strength. If I use them at all, it's to assess where I'm at. On non-climbing days, I do some training on a hangboard.
