I would say perhaps to maintain the fabric of the nuclear family. Without a doubt a child will more-often-than-not do better in a family structure with two supporting parents.

The world isn't the same as it was a half century ago during WW2 for example. People aren't staying at the same jobs, living in the same homes or staying with the same partner their entire lives anymore like they used to. Globalization is being driven by technology and the world is coming together, which in turn means the borders separating people are eroding. As technology advances rapidly (ie. communication) the world will continue to change.

To think the nuclear family has to remain intact against all odds is wishful thinking while ignoring this inevitable trend. I get that conservatives think banning homosexuality and suppressing them will help maintain the nuclear family but the harm that does often goes unseen. The voices of those victims have gotten us to where we are today (ie. legalizing gay marriage).

Another debate is whether gay people should be allowed to adopt, which further branches out the influence of the liberal attitude throughout society.

I never said allow public nudity and indecency. There are already laws addressing that. If the police choose to not arrest that's their decision.
