These carry applicable tests aren't intended to separate out the best in the country or best in the world, though. They are commonly used as a judge of proficiency. There's a difference.

We are talking about, like, general "guys who go to the gym" strength standards, where say squatting 4 plates or benching 3 plates would be acing it and qualifies as "yeah, he's strong"...you're (with USPSA) talking about like an untested powerlifting federation's 2 ply national qualifying standard or something.
This is a fair assessment. When I shot the Master Pistol Instructor course at our academy it was a similar methodology. The qualification is 30 round course of fire with a mix of timed drills at distances between 5-25yrds. There is an allowance for 3 misses. 90% to pass. Because I shoot USPSA I found it pretty easy to smoke the times but we typically see a 40-50% fail rate in that course despite that the majority in attendance are usually experienced LE instructors.

There is a very wide margin between competitive shooting and proficiency. I would go as far as saying the average B class USPSA competitor would smoke 99% of the LE world (assuming the individual didn't compete actively themselves). That's not a knock on LE and it's strictly on shooting proficiency NOT tactics. I've shot alongside SF guys domestic and foreign, LE, SWAT, etc and usually had no problem hanging with them on the range. A good friend of mine is a USPSA GM and the skill gap is so wide I don't even feel like we're in the same sport. The one instance I beat him on a stage was a colossal ****up on his part that a few of us still give him **** for.

Those CCW standards look like fun. I may give them a run on the next range trip. Most of them I'm confident I can hit easily but a few are pretty tight. I may be moving away from my P365 for winter carry though. I spend so much time on an XSeries P320 that I will likely go to an XCompact in the near future.

I'm torn between taking the Advanced Combative Carbine CQC and Midrange classes at Ridgeline this year.

Wonder if I can get the company to help...

Might take one of the defensive rifle classes at Sig. Better drive if nothing else.

There's one stamp for each NFA item. You buy the suppressor and then you have to apply for the stamp (which requires $200 and includes providing the serial # for the specific suppressor you bought) and then the FFL has to hold possession until the stamp is approved. Once the stamp is approved (6+ months) then you get to take possession of that suppressor you bought.

If you decide you want another suppressor later . . . it's the same process all over again to get a stamp for that suppressor (and another $200).

    Not sheriff srs

To buy an already manufactured suppressor you need a Form 4 and resultant tax stamp. To file your Form 4 and pay the $200 and play the waiting game for your stamp, you must have the serial number of the exact item you are going to transfer into your possession.

You buy the suppressor and the dealer holds onto it while you wait for your stamp, which will have that exact suppressors serial number on it, and that one is the one you get

Anyone got experience with form 1 suppressors?

Considering going that way to avoid the 9 month wait for my stamp to be delivered. Looking at rimfire so dead simple to make but it's hard to find info on how good the kits are in comparison to something like a mask or switchback. Really need that Hollywood pewpew for suburban pest control

Yep...wait is closer to 12 months brah *for each one* and you can start officially counting once the ATF cashes the check.

Did you already pay for it? What did you actually pay *for*? Check your receipt etc. They might have just set you up a trust or something, in which case that's very expensive...Silencer Shop will do it for $130.

Believe it or not, the facebook group is actually pretty good for information.

Manufactured can is going to be more consistent but for something like rimfire it probably doesn't matter. You also can't reconfigure a .22 suppressor built on F1 (like for example, the Rugged Oculus can be run as a normal variant or K variant by unscrewing sections) - can't legally do that on a Form 1.

Maybe it's just a lack of experience but I don't see much advantage to modularity, if I'm running it on a pistol I want as much suppression as I can get, if it's on a rifle that doesn't really need it... 3 inches shorter isn't much affect.

If companies would offer replacement bases I'd see more advantage to the whole multiple length thing.

LGS with a range so I can do prison visits has an oculus in stock so I'll probably go that way if I end up form 4. Lots of hype on the switchback rifle configuration with reversed baffles but not a whole lot of user feedback that I can find and getting the latest and greatest seems a little silly when the next best thing will probably be out before I can shoot mine outside.

Deleted facebook and lawyered up years ago so I miss out on most of the info on there, gotta scrape what little I can get from various forums.

I'll add, I think I recommend going with the shortest and lightest suppressor you are considering for a 5.56 rifle that still has the rate of fire and barrel length rating you desire. Reason, no 5.56 is "hearing safe" anyway and any suppressor will considerably reduce the concussion and also volume so why saddle yourself with a boat anchor hanging off the front totally ****ing up your rifle's balance. An AAC 762 SDN6 on the end of a 16" rifle vs a Mini 4 on the end of an 11.5" or so...whoa

Modularity and versatility is huge when we're talking about items that take ~12 months to approve. Form Form 1 though I'd rather just make two cans.

That's good advice...for me it depends on the application. I can comfortably shoot 5.56 (a couple rounds while hunting) without ear pro with a full size can...I wouldn't do that with a shorter can like the Sandman K. In general, for hunting I like larger cans if I'm not moving around...for an HD gun or something intended for more "tactical" purposes, shorter is better. An 11.5 with a 9" can on it is as long as a 20" M16, and not nearly as well balanced.

Also, FWIW I like buying cans that are slightly over-bored for the application...gives you a lot more wiggle room in alignment in terms of avoiding baffle strikes. Also, they tend to be higher volume, so you get less gas on the face.

I want to get a Surefire RC2 or maybe the Mini 2 eventually for a 5.56 can.

Probably one of my all time favorite range guns. Cheap to shoot, reliable, non existent recoil impulse, standard AR controls.

The PCC competition oriented variant has a minimum advertised price of $1699 so it isn't as bad as people make it out to be (The K pistol variant is a little higher at $1829). The real reason they're that expensive is manufacturing costs. It's a short stroke gas piston operating system with a completely unique machined upper/lower. They're not cheap to build compared to a partially polymer gun or an AR that you can spec out and source reliable outside manufacturing through some of the companies that do it in high volume.

I'm a huge fan of my PCC. I have been mulling over a second MPX as an HD setup for the wife when I'm out of town. She's a whopping 105lb 5' woman and isn't that confident with some of my heavier rifles but loves the MPX.
