    A bit about the 80's for context . . .

Part of the reason the 80's were so great was because the 70's sucked so bad. The nation was coming off the 60's boomer/hippie and Vietnam hangovers and walked right into Watergate and the oil embargo. So in a few years you had a combo of waiting in line for expensive gas (for hours and then the station was out when you finally got your turn), Nixon resigning and Ford taking over . . . and then Jimmy Carter taking over who made things worse. He was the original SJW before SJW's and he was a spineless buffoon during a time when we had the energy crisis, the Soviets always a minute away from nuking us, and Iran punking us by taking hostages in their revolution in '79. Interest rates were impossibly high--my parents had a mortgage at almost 18%. Imagine that.

There was just a kind of general feeling that America's azz was kicked and nobody had any hope or confidence. Carter looked helpless most of the time. He even had a tv speech about the "crisis of confidence" (often called the "malaise speech") at the time . . . and he wasn't exactly the kind of leader who inspired the confidence needed.

Then . . . along came Reagan. He was MAGA before MAGA. People can rail about what worked and what didn't . . . but he believed in American exceptionalism and what it could accomplish and other world leaders knew he was not Carter. Reagan beat Carter in a landslide. He cut taxes, led deregulation, increased military spending and took a hard line against the Soviets. The hostages got freed (which at the time was a huge boost and most thought they were released because the Iranians thought Reagan was going to pulverize them) and eventually under Reagan businesses grew and people generally felt pretty positive again. You got the Berlin Wall coming down, the Soviet Union collapsing, etc.

So growing up in the 80's was all about riding that wave of confidence . . . people wanted to have a good time. People wanted to succeed. You had MTV launching, arcades--and then home gaming systems being introduced, John Hughes movies, Arnold movies, etc. Parents were both working (like Raxys noted) and kids were on their own a good deal of the time and were responsible for themselves. There was tremendous freedom but also a lot of responsibility and you learned how to take care of yourself. There wasn't political correctness gone nuts. There weren't cell phones or computers (to a large degree) and kids got together and did things together.

It was just good times, generally.
It sounds like today minus the sjw shiit and socialists

You can do this for almost every year in the 80s. Never mind the music. There were dozens of epic movies and songs every year. These days there are what, maybe 2 or 3 memorable movies or songs a year, if that. There were highs and lows, but I think the 80s will be considered the best decade for movies and music ever. Although i may be biased since that is the decade I grew up in.

Hey Relentless, you're the CZ/DW guy.

If you had one shot to grab any DW model, what would you look at? Considering the Valor Commander in 9mm or the Specialist Government in 45. Not sure if the 9's are built as tight as the 45s or not.

In CA it's a fkkin nightmare to find these, so it's not a "buy one now and one later" situation.

Leaning maybe 9mm since CA roster does have some nice standard 1911s on the approved roster for down the road?

I think commander and officer sized 1911's are absolute **** - don't care who built it. So that's automatically out. If that's your only choices, the Specialist Govt. would be the automatic go-to for me. It also has an accessory rail, which I also love on 1911's. I'd also rather 9mm over 45, but I guess if 45 is all you can get...

I think the point of 2001 was to justify additional government curtailment of Rights and Liberties as well as yet more overseas aggression and massive federal government spending on things like military and homeland occupation errr security

Discretion, but you can't have that because it has a threaded bbl. Which leaves me with no other picks because they don't have **** in stock as far as new. lol

Honestly I'd be happy with a Specialist brah. Full size, accessory rail, and of course - hand built by DW. It's a winner all around.

Buddy of mine asked me to shoot this. https://www.shootingillustrated.com/...ur-ccw-skills/

The split times are short, and distance is 7 yd on a FBI-QIT-97. Inner skinny bottle = 5 points, outer bottle = 2, miss = 0. The skinny bottle is a relatively small (width-wise) vertically oriented bottle target.

Interestingly, if you don't make a single par time, you flat out fail.

    Stage 1:

x2: 1 round, from concealment. 3.3 seconds cumulative for both runs (i.e., average of 1.65 seconds per)

    Stage 2:

x2: 2 rounds, from low ready. 2.7 seconds cumulative for both runs (i.e., average 1.35 seconds per)

    Stage 3:

x1: 6 rounds, from low ready. 3 seconds cumulative.

    Stage 4:

x2: 1 round, top off, 1 round. 6.5 seconds cumulative (average 3.25 s each). Note, mags are fully loaded so no slide lock, you're just topping off the pistol.

    Stage 5:

x2: 2 targets separated by 3 yd each. 1 round on each target, from low ready. Cumulative 3.3 seconds (average 1.65 each).

    Stage 6:

x2: 3 targets separated by 3 yd each. Start facing away from target, and turn at the buzzer. 1 rd on each target, from concealment. Cumulative 7 seconds (average 3.5 each).

    Stage 7:

x2: Round in chamber, empty magazine. Start low ready, 1 round standing, kneel and reload, 1 round kneeling. Cumulative 8 seconds (average 4 each).

All in all, it doesn't sound difficult until you look at the par times. I don't have these po po targets so I'll use an IDPA target, see how it goes. It's only 30 rounds, but much better for *training* than just plinking or whatever.

I'll bet like 98% of carriers would fail that with their actual concealed carry setup.

    And that's being generous

    Unsurprisingly, this is in FL

Craziest video I've seen yet to come out of this mess. My mind is obliterated how cops handled this, complete lack of regard for the many innocent civilians around. This is a disgrace.

Fuking ridiculous. Police killed an innocent dude, and could have killed who knows how many more. Here I am worrying about a round going through a wall and into my neighbors house, and police fire a hundred rounds into a crowd of vehicles. Lol.

Maybe he meant 2% of marshal candidates or something. Yeah, it seems exceptionally difficult.

I'm planning to shoot it either tomorrow or Sunday from appendix with the P01...see which stages give me trouble and which are easy. I have IPSC silhouettes, which have wider but shorter A zones so may be easier, but either way should be diagnostic. Main issue will be shot cadence...those strings are very fast.

I shoot 'the test' consistently (10 in b8 black, <10 s, 10 yd) but this is going to be a whole different ballgame.

Killed two innocents. Hostage and somebody in another vehicle.

This is much faster than the test. Some of those are more like half test pace. Larger target, farther, overall probably an easier target than the half, but the draw from concealment times are quite quick for actual conceal carry setups, and it's a lot of sequences to have to get all of them...many from concealment.
