    Breaking a cutting plateau!

    Hey Fitfam,

    I’m preparing for my first bodybuilding competition in July and am now on the 5th week of my cut. I’ve lost 5 lbs since I’ve started cutting, and for the last 2 weeks, my weight has refused to budge.

    To give you some context, I’m 5’7”, currently 150 lbs, at roughly 16% body fat. I’m eating around 1450 cals a day (165g protein/110g carbs/40g fat), lifting 6 days per week, doing 6x30 min. HIIT sessions per week, and 3x20 min steady state post workout cardio sessions per week. I have one active test day during which I am doing 35 minutes steady state cardio.

    I’ve lost a bit of fat everywhere but my lower belly which hasn’t changed at all since I’ve started cutting. I’m getting frustrated, and I can’t help but feel that my body’s refusal to let go of this body fat is related to the stress of such a heavy exercise regimen. Or perhaps I am still eating too much?

    What are your thoughts? How can I break through this plateau and become as stage-ready by the end of the next 9 weeks?
