    Muscle memory after cutting?

If you lose a bit of muscle while cutting does it come back quicker then normal when you return to bulking after cutting? or is muscle memory only when you are coming off a lay off?

Likely yes, but you may gain fat back more quickly. So if you lose 2 pounds of muscle you may put on say 5 pounds of weight before you get the 2 pounds of muscle back (the other 3 pounds being fat). I pulled those numbers out of thin air but that's what's seen in people who eat ad libitum after weight loss. Whether it's fully applicable to people eating a sensible surplus and high protein diet with resistance training, I'm skeptical.

Eating more protein can help prevent this to a degree, but after a point you're probably going to lose some muscle mass if you cut calories low enough. In most cases, overweight dieters need to eat at least 1.4-1.6 grams of protein per kilogram of body mass to avoid losing muscle.(indianworkouts)
