getting back into weightlifting - stuck in a rut!

    Hi all,

I used to be really into weightlifting and I had really good momentum. I was building up my strength and endurance and seeing improvements.

But, since October 2018, I fell off and I don't know how to get back on again. I've lost a lot of endurance, strength, and I've gained about 30 pounds. I feel really gross physically/mentally, and really discouraged and disappointed in myself.

Does anyone have advice about how to get back into weight lifting? How to get motivated? How to get back into a routine? I feel so stuck in a rut. Any advice would be so appreciated.

    Thanks

My only advice is to just go. Motivation is nice but not something you want to wait or rely on. It's the same with writing. If I wait for inspiration to write then I'm rarely ever going to get writing done. But if I still down and get to work then I make progress on my novels.

For programs, you pick one that works best for your goals and/or that you want to do and just get started. If you haven't been in a while then start off a bit lighter. Don't go too heavy right away, but you can build from there once you get going again.

    Good luck.

Maybe you could take a buddy or hire a trainer to get you started? I fell off around the same time and am currently in severe pain from DOMS after Thursday's first time back.....it is hard to go back - for so many reasons - but like Fiction2Fitness said - you just have to do it. If we only go on days we are motivated - we will usually not succeed at much.

If you need the accountability try finding a gym partner or maybe even hire a personal trainer for a little bit until you get back into the groove of things.
