    Ubisoft's Anno 1800 releases 4/16

Anyone getting the game? Open beta is still running through today. Been years since I last played an Anno game or any city-builder game for that matter. Tried the beta and I was indeed very intrigued. Not sure if I want to pull the trigger just yet. I was thinking of trying out some of their older games like Anno 2205 (which was their previous game release but back in 2015) but it got some pretty mediocre->poor reviews. I really enjoyed the beta, but I wanted to see some thoughts on it for those that's tried it. Also, GOG has the game for 15% off too. Game and beta is available via Uplay.

Gonna wait for the finished product. Had played Anno 1404 but it got boring quick because the combat system absolutely sucked balls.

Good to know. The beta only lets you get finish Act 1 so I don't even know what combat was like.

I tried the beta but I legit can't progress because I can't figure out how to collect wood... I built a lumber yard and mill inside of a forest but it doesn't produce anything at all... It keeps telling me it needs a Warehouse, but I can't build a warehouse because I have no wood...

So as for right now I give the game a 0/10 because I suck.

I played Anno 2205. It was fun for a couple days (once through the campaign). I got bored finally after reaching the moon base so didn't finish it but almost. My biggest issue is that it had almost no replayability. I never had the desire to pick it up again and play through it again. Once you do it once I can't see doing it again. The systems were very simple which is the biggest problem and I never felt challenged. Not like some city buildings like skylines that you could build 50 cities and still have fun.

As for the new game it looks really fun. I purposely didn't play beta and plan to pick it up in the next week or so. Not in a huge rush but do plan on getting it.

LOL! Click your trading port and you can set each material to buy, sell, or keep at a certain limit, or do nothing. Just set your to buy (I believe it's the "red arrow") wood at your trading port at like 20 or whatever and after a few minutes you'll get wood.

Good to know. I was looking at that one too, but the whole space/sci-fi city building didn't look interesting to me, but I'm always a fan of old-year settings like this one.

I'm very disppleased they made it Epic store exclusive and taked away from Steam. I prefer my game stats to be in one place and I will wait for steam release.

Haven't played any quality medieval city-builder for a while, Anno 1800 comes in a good time as there is lack of competitrs as far as I know.

How is this game? Does it compare to Civ games or age of empires games at all ? I know its 2 different genres but it seems like its a hybrid of both?

Pulled the trigger and picked up the game. Unfortunately greenmangaming was out of stock on their 15% off keys (still is), but the game was worth it nonetheless. It has been years since I last touched any city builder game but the game is awesome. As I mentioned, I've heard some of the previous Anno titles were pretty mediocre, but current reviews of Anno 1800 mention that Ubisoft did the game right. Tonsss of things to do in the campaign and/or sandbox mode. Plenty of resources to go for, gotta keep track of your population tier levels, as well as diplomacy. On top of maintaining your colony as well as others on the map, you are also presented with expeditions to the "New World" which offers resources only keen to that world where you must send trade ships between each world to advance population tier levels on what not. Very thought out game, diplomacy is pretty neat, and naval combat is pretty fun. Really enjoying the game and I think it's definitely worth the price. You can play the game as fast and as slow as you want. There is no rush to hit the next population tier level. Plenty of quests are added through diplomacy as well as random encounters.
