Help with IP routing and subnetting

I understand the concepts however I am having a hard time figuring out these questions. Can anyone explain their reasoning? They want me to click on the pair of IPs and then use the networking flow chart to click a path as to how the ip will be routed.

For example, because I think there is a flaw in my thinking.....for pair #1 source 172.16.100.1 and 10.2.1.1 since they are not on the same network, it will go to the gateway which is 172.16.100.0 and then go to the next network gateway of 10.2.1.0 and then get forwarded to the 10.2.1.1 host on that nework...thing is , I swear I'm right and I never get any of these questions right wtf. I need 100% before moving on but I'm messing up.

Based on the networks and subnets they chose they just want you to understand VLSM. In the instance you mentioned they are both within the indicated subnets and 1 hop apart. 3rd one down the 10.3 network doesn't exist in the sample networks, etc...

    Sorry about the pic upload.

I was totally blowing this. I'm new to networking. Anyway, in some examples, the host ID was being sent to a network which would not support the host ID/did not have enough space/host did not exist on the network, hence, the source or destination was not present .

Thanks for the help, brain fart, I had a week off and might have done some heavy drinking

I have no idea what the question is here since there is no real indication about how these networks are being routed or what sort of links they are using between routers. Let's just assume that there is a full routing mesh and every router knows how to get to every other router.

172.16.100.1/24 > 10.2.1.1/16 - Directly connected, will use the directly connected path.

    192.168.0.73/24 > 10.2.100.1/16 - This would go to router 192.168.1.64/26 and then to 10.2.100.1/16

10.3.1.32 > 10.1.32.1 - Does not exist within this network topology.

192.168.1.254 > 10.1.1.254 - They tried to trick you with this one. Neither 192.168.1.0/26 or 192.168.1.64/26 will not contain the .254 address so there would be no source IP for this question. Your usable range for these networks are 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.62 and 192.168.1.65 to 192.168.1.126.

    10.1.240.240/16 > 10.2.240.240/16 - This would choose the shortest path through 172.16.100.0/24

192.168.1.1/26 > 192.168.1.65 - Again, shortest path assuming everything else is equal, Going to 192.168.0.0/24 and then to 192.168.1.64/26.

192.168.1.81 > 10.1.254.254 - Same thing as above, going to 192.168.0.0/24 and then to 10.1.0.0/16

192.168.0.128 > 192.168.1.128 - They tried to trick you again here, remember there are only 62 usable addresses in the /26 so 192.168.1.65 to 192.168.1.126 is the usable range on the 192.168.1.64/26 router. 192.168.1.128 is actually the network address for the next subnet.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks bro. This assignment was still a little confusing to me, could you please explain why this is? really trying to learn this material, need to find my gaps. I ended up getting it all right but I guess a little and really didn't understand.

Any of you networking bros know of any forums where I can get help? I know this may not be the place for it. I typed a long reply and the bb.com server experienced a connection issue
