About 1 gram per pound of lean body mass is a good starting point

The studied amount for resistance trained individuals is .8g per lb of mass. If you stick to 1g per lb of mass you would be good for bulking or cutting and it makes macro planning a lot easier. Nothing wrong with getting more protein, unless it cuts back on carbs and your exercise performance suffers. But that's more of an issue when you get to contest prep situations, and what not.
