    Angry How do you get reliable workers to be consistent? Show up? On time? Not steal?

    HELP! Reps. This stress is going to kill me. I don't even want to show up to work anymore.

    So many bro's that seem like great people when I hire them, end up not showing up half the time, are consistently LATE, don't show up with WILD excuses (A guy this week literally used a botched circumcision). And then I fire guys, and create that much MORE stress. Takes me 2-3 weeks to find one half descent laborer and have to train him back up all over again.

    It's like a never ending process. Paying more / bonuses don't seem to really work well either...

    Any ideas??

    1. Pay them well based on the market value of their positions and offer competative benefits accordingly.

    2. Make sure you/your company rewards good, hard work and doesn't play into bullshiit workplace favortism. Favortism, which is all too common in many workplaces, enables the worthless pricks whilst demoralizing the workers who would be your best.

    3. Don't treat your workers like shiit in general.


    Those are the things that will make you a desirable employer that people will actually want to work for rather than just showing up and going through the motions for a pay check.

    Yep, you can either hire young people that can pick up technology quickly and be productive but they miss work constantly, or you can hire old people that are reliably on the job but are slow as dirt and have a hard time with any technology.

    I mean it's car detailing, and I'm already paying $13/ Hour + Tips which works out closer to $20/ hr. I pad their hours, and give $100 here and there. It just seems like if they aren't willing to work, nothing is going to get them off the couch. Half of them make enough from government programs, they just don't show up if they don't feel like showing up and don't need beer money.

    Lol no. There are obviously exceptions to the rules, late 20's - late 30's is the best bet if you're looking for best level of overall production out of workers. Go younger and you have a higher risk of laziness and disprespect for rules, go older and your risk for slowness and stubbornness increases.

    Unfortunately, you're hiring people to do a shiity menial job that amounts to beer money for lazy college aged kids or a shiit job for older folks down on their luck.

    Without knowing your business the only real suggestion I can make is to consult with someone in your area that specializes in hiring people... like a head hunter or staffing agency. They will have a good idea of the industry in the area, how your business compares to others, etc.. . Even if you don't end up utilizing either's service.. You will probably learn something just by conversing with them. If your pay structure is out of line with others, they'll tell you. If your hiring the wrong type of person, they tell you, etc..
    Utilize their service and obviously the upfront cost will be more, but will more than pay for itself in the long run if they do help solve your turnover issue.
    A huge benefit to utilizing an outside service would be freeing up your time to grow your business rather than spending it hiring folks.
    In my experience.. hiring people that are a little older is a good idea.
    If the job is hard and with little chance of real advancement and earnings potential... turnover will always be one of your biggest challenges.

    I know a guy that runs a small general contracting business who had the same issues. He started offering a small sign on bonus for good workers but they had to meet a time frame to get the bonus and brought coffees etc to site here and there. Ended up getting a few good workers. After that he got a reputation for treating his guys like family. A surprise pizza lunch/bbq out of the blue can do wonders for what your employees think of the company.

    Hire workers who will carry themselves professionally, not those who could be your best friend. Have proper training/mentoring so they see themselves doing the job for the next while.

    Hire a lot of people, reduce total hours for each, let them set their own schedule.

    The ones who demonstrate they can be reliable and want more hours then increase theirs.

    You have to create a competition for those hours among your workers so there’s incentive to do well when it comes to sh*t jobs like this

    Good points, people generally want to feel needed/accepted/valuable. If you can shape that perception you can accomplish your goals.

    We have a guy in our office that bitches about wasting money every time the boss takes out a department for lunch. Said guy doesn't understand the purpose of such gestures.

    Yeah that kind of changed how I was able to answer OP's question. I worked at a car wash/detail place over a decade ago as a young lad. They paid us like $7 /hr, I think minimum wage was $6.15 at the time. Tips were shiit, and there were a ton of bitchy customers in that line of work who freaked out over a single droplet of water left on their car from the wash or you not being able to fully get something like the smell of months old cat piss out their vehicle seats.

    Didn't help that the manager was a dumb prick who favored strictly his cashier chicks (who got paid the same as us dudes doing the bitch work to sit in a comfortable cashier booth in the front of the line) and couple of long-timers who got to exclusively work the water hoses in the front while the rest of us had to hand dry cars, do the legit detail jobs, and all the basic maintenance. So I and a few other dudes were sweating our balls off in the summer heat (I imagine the cold sucks too) doing the worst gigs while others got paid the same or better to run a cash register in a comfy booth or the water hoses that at least had the shelter of being inside the actual wash itself at all times and not getting directly beat down by the summer sun heat.

    Basically, it's one of those jobs that's fine if you can get favortism of job duties by being either a female who isn't a complete bridge troll or a buddy of the boss. Regular dudes who would potentially be extremely good overall employees (not just demanding to work one specific part of it) and reliable will never last long at a place like that.
