should I drop deadlifts from my routine? (srs)

I've never gotten injured from any lift but deadlifts keep re-injuring my lower back and hips.

most I've pulled is 405x6 but I was recently injured with only 315 for reps.

I bench 305 and squat 405 and I'm wondering if deadlifts are worth it for the continued progress of my physique. should I just focus on bench and squat?

right now 6'1 210 trying to bulk up to 240.

Yes, they are overrated as hell
Only do it if you are competing or you will derive some monetary value from it.

I learned that I have spondy by deadlifting 315 for reps one day. A few trips to the spine dude confirmed it.

He said no more deadlifting. Another guy said do it but high reps low weight....

I didn’t listen to either and went slowly. My max was 435 back then and I’m in the 390s now. I’m still afraid to go that heavy but I can do the same amount of 3 plate reps with no pain.

Find out why your back is hurting and try to listen to your body.... I stop if my back hurts but it doesn’t happen much anymore. It’s been 5 years.

When I tried removing deadlifts altogether and I found that my back would hurt more after a few weeks of not deadlifting.

Your mileage may vary though. Everyone’s different and your problem might not be the same as mine...

    My favorite lift

It can be dangerous if not done properly, but is very beneficial if done correctly

I would check your form, and also make sure you are stretching, warming up appropriately, and doing assistance work

Deads are fun, however, incredibly taxing on your body.

I've pulled a 405 single and I'm way more than content with that.
    CURRENT PR(S)
    295 squat
    405 deadlift

It’s really fkn good for your upper back, neck, and lower back, which are all hard to work muscles. They need heavy weight to grow. Machine rows can only do so much.

It’s not that hard to have good form, watch a YouTube video on it lol.

    Don’t drop them

Sumo's are the way to go.
Most likely you maxing out your hip socket and it's pulling on your lower back.
    Wider stance helps.

Sumo crew. When you nail the form it feels effortless, Imo.

If you can get it off the ground you can lock it out.

Idk, the most I've deadlifted is 300 for 5 reps. I'm starting the fierce 5 routine and they have romanian deadlifts though but I don't expect to go too heavy with those.

not bad if you are a light dude.
I'm 200lb and ironically deadlift is my worst lift proportional to my bodyweight

I'm gonna try wide stance conventional deadlifts and sumo, for now, this Saturday. had to skip squats this week due to the back injury and deadlifts last week

If you keep getting injured you are doing them wrong, flat out. Video yourself and figure out what's going on. Could also be your training volume is too high.

That said of course if you hate them then just don't do them.... The deadlift police won't lock you up for it. Squatting 405 will keep your back strong, throw in some good mornings or SLDL's and you're gold.

good advice. Ill try the light SLDL and see if it strengthens my back

some guy at my gym who got into a car wreck and shattered a few vertebrae disks told me deadlifts healed his back injury.
    hopefully this works

    if ur injured drop it.

tfw i can finally say i'm in the 500 club, my back is in top shape so far and i don't feel injured at all. the human body can go pretty far imo. hips/piriformis on the other hand is hurting like a bitch but that's also due to my sprinting workouts, not necessarily deadlifts.

for me now that i've gotten some experience with it..it's kind of hard to fuk urself up deadlifting. the way i set up..if i don't set up right, 405 doesn't come off the ground. my body has a mechanism to just say "fuk no" and i stop attempting if i misgroove. get ur groove down, u wont fuk urself up.

more than likely has to do with your height. most shorter men have short legs in proportion to their torso.

their back is nearly vertical in the pulling position.

for a shorter manlet, my legs are pretty long proportionately. my pulling position is pretty rounded towards horizontal actually.

i do love deadlifts simply because it feels fking great while you're doing it and it's literally testosterone inducing. by all means if you're just trying to lift casually and look joocy, there's tons of other exercises out there. there is no one true essential exercise to answer your original question.

    no

I've seen your videos deadlifting before. you have a near 1:1 torso to leg length ratio.

not a bad thing as ed coan has similar proportions and pulls 900lbs+

I feel that deadlifts make your waist bigger, so there would actually be a benefit to not doing them. I only do them occasionally just to have strength. But i notice most guys who do them regularly develop that blocky look. Yeah theyre strong, but they eventually get that thick waist look.

As others have said, Sumo is the way to go. Basically reduces risk of injury by 50%.

I haven't deadlifted in years. To me I don't see the need and don't even want to risk the possible injuries. Even with good form, sometimes sh!t just happens. Only takes once and I don't powerlift or play sports anymore so what's the point? It's not 2006 where everyone would rip you to shreds if you didn't deadlift. I see even less people doing it now than ever. Kevin Levrone never deadlifted because he said it would increase his waist size ruining his taper.
Death is impossible for us to fathom: it is so immense, so frightening, that we will do almost anything to avoid thinking about it. Society is organized to make death invisible, to keep it several steps removed. That distance may seem necessary for our comfort, but it comes with a terrible price: the illusion of limitless time, and a consequent lack of seriousness about daily life. We are running away from the one reality that faces us all.

yeah thats what i was saying, its going to increase the size of your waist, deadlifts done correctly make your core strong as ****, but definitely makes those muscles grow bigger.
