Official trailer dropped.
I never played this first games. Basically a looter/shooter/rpg hybird? I really like the art style and have friends that spoke highly of the early games so I am somewhat intrigued. Anyone day 1'ing this?

Yep its a looter shooter with rpg elements. Destiny is probably the closest comparison. Destiny feels better as a shooter but Borderlands is way ahead on the rpg and loot aspects. Because of the cell shading graphics they both aged really well. I'm sure you can get them cheap now days so give it a shot.

You should really get going on playing the first 2. If not the first one, definitely the 2nd one when the franchise hits its stride. While the story itself isn't necessarily award winning, the dialogue, characters, voice performances are totally hilarious. The world, the side quests are really zany and over the top, doesn't take itself seriously like Destiny. Handsome Jack is also one of the GOAT video game villians.

Yeah which is fine going from 1 to 2. The fourth iteration of a core title it's time to do something new, but I guess it's just me. It's fine if people want more of the same, but like Fallout 4 and I can only assume the next TES - it's likely going to be pretty meh to me. I mean, despite being arguably bad (i havent gone back to it yet, looks like they did alot to improve) at least FO76 changed up the formula to something that sounded fresh and new on paper.

The pre-sequel definitely wasn't as good, but that game was developed by 2k Australia. Borderlands 1, 2, and 3 are developed by Gearbox and published by 2k Games. Gearbox is where it's at
No joke, this game will be my reason for buying a console. My woman and I played the absolute chit out of Borderlands 1 and 2. If #3 is the same mix of combat, looting, and humour/wit, I am fukn there

Sort of. The mario formula HAS changed in 3 decades. SMW to Mario 64 - a paradigm shift to say the least, then they had some new stuff with galaxy and sunshine, fell back to 2.5d at some point and back to full 3d with Odyssey. Although that is probably more attributed to spanning between console generations. BL is relatively recent, so it didn't get a chance to go from 2d to 3d like Fallout, GTA, zelda etc to have those sorts of sweeping changes. Pokemon I haven't kept up with, but I played red and later X and beyond fighting and capturing, you don't think the new systems for raising and training your pokemon are substantial? Maybe they were introduced slowly over time, and the jump from red to X vs jump from say black to X aren't quite as extensive, so it's hard for me to say since I haven't played every entry. BL3 just looks like BL1 and Bl2 and prequel to me.
Maybe I was just hoping for something different, and not more of the same after I didn't enjoy the prequel. I was also watching the reveal live and if you saw it, you'd probably agree they nearly ruined it with all the tech difficulties they had. I'm not necessarily saying I won't play it, especially if my gaming circle of friends get into it. It has been a long time since I've played BL so maybe I'll be surprised and really enjoy it. First impression is just meh right now.Last edited by dcbone30; 03-29-2019 at 11:42 AM.

I see they are releasing a free upgrade for the Handsome Collection to upgrade to HDR and 4k, and remastering the first game to the same quality. But why don't they now just release all 3 games together?
If I wanted to jump into Borderlands for the first time before Borderlands 3 should I be playing all 3 of the first games or just the most recent 2? Or just the original? Confusing why they have a collection bundle that is missing the first game.
