I'm in good health, quit smoking a long time ago. Last time I got the flu I got a secondary infection and the mucus glued about half of my right bottom lung together. It sucked.

Now I get the vaccine, they organise it once a year free at work anyway, it'd be silly not to do it.

Generally speaking, I am pro-vaccine, but I did have a bad reaction to vaccines and have seen others have bad reactions to vaccines. Problems arising (when they do) are usually production issues.

Except thats not how the immune system or vaccines work at all...The most vaccines will give you attenuated or pieces of the virus/bacteria in question. This allows your immune system to recognize the disease and will be able to produce antibodies. Literally the exact same thing being infected with the flu will cause your immune system to do without the side effects of having the flu.

There is no such thing as exercise for your immune system.

I think most people ITT never actually had real influenza. It‘s not the ‚flu‘, it‘s a serious disease which puts you down two weeks minimum. Unless you get tamiflu (from evil big pharma) within 48h which makes it go away within a few days.

Convalescence period is about 2-3 weeks. That's the period of time where you "feel" better but you still have the viral infection. During those 2-3 weeks you think you feel better, is when people get pneumonia because they do too much too soon.

This wasn’t a polio vaccination, it was a flu one, which are historically basically worthless.

I’m all for vaccinating against serious diseases where the vaccine actually works. Flu shots aren’t on that list, though. There are thousands of strains of flu, they have to guess which handful to inoculate for months in advance, usually completely miss the mark and even if they pick right, it’s not very effective.

They typically pick the FOUR strains that have either the highest prevalence, mortality, or some combination of the above. They are great for people who are high-risk for complications from the flu. They are "meh" for the rest of the population, take it or leave it.

Unfortunately anecdotal stories have almost no value when thinking about the general population. The flu shot only has 40-60% effectiveness in the years when they get the strains right. It is much lower when they do not. When discussing whether to compel people to get vaccinated the flu shot shouldn't be part of that discussion IMO. That kind of drastic action should be reserved for deadly and debilitating diseases.

I've not gotten a flu shot in over 20 years, despite the last flu(s)? I caught which had me bedridden for 4 days. Twice. I take the calculated risk. To be fair about my "process" I'm around a lot of kids and adults on the daily, so I "believe" I have a good immune system since I get a little bit of everything in daily contact. I could be wrong and just have gotten lucky, I'm not sure to be completely honest. I do know that since skipping the shot each year, no difference every single year. When I get a bit older, not as active, and not around so many people I'll start taking the shot, but I'm still on the fence since they miss the virus every few years. This seems backwards? If you're around a lot of people now, you should be taking it to prevent spreading the flu to others, who will then spread it to more people, no?
