CP2077 is an RPG first and foremost. Given the sheer breadth of options and exploration you will have, it's not going to be best-of-the-class in many things it does. The experience will be about the roleplay and the story, and if these are good then it can be a 9+/10 game even if the gameplay is clunky as ****.
After reading up on CP2020 and the lore book leaks over the past few days though, I do worry about whether the world-building will hit the mark. I don't mind the V acting because pretty much every game with a highly customizable MC will be a vessel for the player rather than their own person - the point is for the player to create their own experience. So to speak, that Commander Shepherd can stiffly endorse every store in the Citadel is memable, not a strike against Mass Effect's roleplay.
But the setting of CP2077 is starting to strike me as too shallow and self-evident. The source material is rooted in the 90's, the books written to support the various releases of CP2020. It makes sense for things to be straight forward and revel on the edginess of the setting. But when you're trying to build a world that feels genuine I think drawing too much from the source is a major hindrance. It's as if every playthrough feels like a Nomad run - the interactions with the world aren't internalized, with too much telling over showing to the player. Jackie must constantly insert random Spanish words in his conversations to drill in your head he's Hispanic. Meredith (corpo lady) must explicitly say over and over how corporations are super powerful and not to be trifled with. The Jackie-cops interaction is like a plain explanation of how law enforcement works in Night City. As if V wouldn't have the slightest clue about any of that. It's out there in the name of characters and organizations too - well geez, what does Johnny Silverhand look like? I wonder what is Militech's business? What could the Voodoo Boys possibly reference? Know what I'm saying?
The nice thing about Witcher 3 is that you're already in a fleshed out world with a fleshed out character. The first part of the game is a bit hard to get through not necessarily because it's boring, but because there's so much **** you don't know about either Geralt or the world initially. But all the knowledge drips in steadily throughout the game and you feel truly invested in it after you settle in. The potential problem I see with CP2077 is that you're going to be lectured about quests and characters, and never care or want to revisit outside of wondering what would've happened if you made other choices.
Of course all this is a whole heap of speculation based on clips of the first few hours of a long game. But the success of the Witcher games rests on the story and the characters. Having read the source materials, it's very easy to see how CDPR was able to to deliver great RPG's - the books are excellently-written medieval fantasy for their own sake. CP2020 simply doesn't have that level of depth, as explained previously. So the developers are having to fill a lot of the gaps. Based on what we've seen, are they succeeding? Hard to say.

Okay buddy, anyone who disagrees is a troll then. You people are acting like this game is the second coming of Christ when the Animation looks bad and off, the city looked dead and not lively at all, voice acting was bad, hand to hand combat looks bad. That was just a 20 minute demo so I hope it's not going to be an accurate representation of what's to come. RDR2 looks miles better than this chit dead srs. I pray the final product looks better than this.

The world looks really awesome but I'm on the fence about whether it will be a game I would enjoy. Not really into games that are first person view, does anyone know if you will be able to switch to third person view?
Also, not sure if I should hold out for a next gen version of the game, since we're only a few months away from their release.
I ended up buying GTA V twice, once on PS3 and then again for PS4...^^Former 300+lb Crew^^

Character system...attributes and traits from Arcanum.
Gradual skill system from early Gothics.
It's overall layout like in Fallout 1/2.
Level design, "open" gameplay, manipulation of environment: Deus Ex, all Arkane games.
Quality weapon variety ( how they look, how they play), stat dependency, metagaming: Soulsborne.
Quest design: New Vegas.
Anatomy of a sidequest.
Controls, action/tactics/stealth, sandbox gameplay+ companion/gameplay: MGSV Phantom Pain.
Cohesive gameplay systems, mastery: NG Black, Vanquish, Nioh.
Perk system: PerMa (Skyrim mod).
Weapon upgrade/customization system: Fallout IV ( but more refined and with less busywork).
Choices and consequences, quest writing and characters: Witcher III.
Seems like Cyberpunk got the best elements from other massive RPG hits.

I think it's really interesting how they said you can beat the game without killing anyone

Survival. When the jungle tears itself down and builds itself into something new. Guys like you and me, we end up dead. Doesn’t really mean anything. Or, if we happen to live through it, well that doesn’t mean anything either.

I also read that your choices affect the story so much, its possible to beat the game before ever getting to some of the final quests, which is pretty insane.
But makes sense I guess. We know already that depending on choices made, its possible to have, or not have, boss fights that someone else may or may not have, etc. So I guess it's not too far fetched.
