Reminds me of one of those prank videos where an athlete in their prime makes up like an old person and goes out to the gym or muscle beach to humiliate the young bucks... But this is real!

She still has the body and the strength of an athlete.

    Man...she did a couple things I don’t think I could do.

Just think, almost every healthy person has the potential to be like that at her age if only they gave two sh*ts.

That was my first thought, but her hands look old (as far as I could see in video) so looks genuine. Amazing!!!
Faith in Jesus first and faith in squats second.

Rare yes, but more and more seniors are training. I started Get Ft For The King in 2010 at the church I pastor. I currently have a dozen seniors training three times a week. I am the youngest at 55. The oldest is 86 and she puts most of the rest of us to shame.

Quick story about our 86 year old. She was at the doctor's office recently for an annual physical. The PA was in there with her and asked her to lay back on the table. After the exam, she was told she could get up. Martha popped right up before the PA could get around to help her. The PA, couldn't believe what had happened so asked her to lie down and then get back up again. She had to lay down and get up 3 times before the PA told her that she had never seen someone her age be able to get up by herself at 86. Martha credits our training.

I tell all my seniors, we have two goals when we start. 1.) Pass the balance test during their annual physical. 2.) be able to get out of a chair without having to use their hands to push off. Doesn't sound like much, but for older folks, both of those are big deals. We don't do any balancing on swiss balls or any such craziness, just resistance training, core work and some functional cardio (sled work, battle ropes, stair climbs, timed walks). I wish we could get more of our folks involved.

Maybe don't tell them they're about to do the sled push and battle ropes!!! LOL....That might help.....JK!!! It is true that if people stay physically active throughout much of their lives they can remain remarkably resilient and strong. However, it's becoming easier for people of all ages to become secondary.

It may not apply to this lady, but I was thinking that she came of age about the time that fitness first started to be considered something people could adopt as a lifestyle for a lifetime. Back in the '60's and earlier, it seems to me that being in shape was something women (with a few notable exceptions) were concerned about only to the point that they could snag a husband, and even for a male athlete, unless he did it for a living, he pretty much gave it up once he settled down to be a family man.

This lady may be the first fruits of a generation who was able to reject that expectation, and really make it something they could do for their entire lives. I don't think this gal is new to strength training.

I’ve been “debating” too...just one or 2 days a week. Not as my “real” workout, but just as a fun social thing to do for a change and to meet some people. Of course, I wouldn’t go for ANY weight lifting, especially not Olympic lifts.

I’ve been tossing it around for about a year...I’m guessing the cost probably isn’t worth it though.

At one point I half thought about CrossFit, but the price was a killer, you still need gym membership (if you can't train at home) so it's a heap extra money.

This time last year I had a lifting coach for short while (different gym, I had a different job). The guy also did some CrossFit instruction as another job (they probably have a special word for instructor?). He wasn't impressed with my fitness and as a reward gave me a few sessions in something like CrossFit (+ "homework" sessions) before he'd consider any Olly lifts. Wow they were tough sessions.

If the instructor at the box is as careful and risk-averse as him it'd be fine, but easily poor supervision + stupidity + bad luck could all add up easily to a very serious injury. So be cautious people!

This lady may be the first fruits of a generation who was able to reject that expectation, and really make it something they could do for their entire lives. I don't think this gal is new to strength training.
If she is real..of course she's been at this for a good, good while.....but probably started "later" if she has good enough joints at 72, to do box jumps, pistol squats, pushups on dumbells, other very taxing joint exercises...Usually long term "hard core" training takes it's toll on everyone's joints, way before 72....

Was someone above saying the video looked "messed with".......??? I thought that as a possibility yesterday too, but I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt, being that there are exceptions to the "rules."

No.. she did a squat holding out a plate in front, sure it wasn't a barbell back squat but her knees were perfect 90 degrees, no half squat there. She should come to the gyms I train in and see so many people squatting only the top third with that foam sleeve thing on the bar. Anyway.. she should come to the gym and kick their butts

Makes you wonder what excuses younger people make. This is frankly awesome, and should act as a lesson for a lot of people.
My dad's of the mindset that continuing good habits and staying injury free is the secret to a long life, and means you can stay ste9ng and fit until you croak.

    He's 75 and benching 245lbs. I think he's onto something.

Don’t often get to quote myself, and not sure if anyone cares...but they actually posted prices on thier website. It used to be all elusive, where you had to come in for the sales pitch to get prices.

$105.50 month (there are a few other prices, but this one is the best). Unlimited classes, and nutrition consultations. Not really a bad deal for someone who doesn’t know much about excercise or nutrition, providing the trainers there do.

Local gym memberships in the area run about $30-$50 a month, with tanning and other stuff costing extra.

Watched thier video and looked at some pics. Some of the people look to be in “good shape”, but only 1 guy I saw looked like he lifted. I would have a real problem with. I mean, with bodybuilding, you have all the health and fitness benifits AND the visual rewards.

Anyway, I’d probably only drop in twice a week...so not very economical. I can climb a rope or roll a tire in my back yard for free...but the social aspect would be fun.
